Sanoma County, California - A traffic stop in Healdsburg Friday led to the discovery of two marijuana growing operations and the seizure of more than 2,000 marijuana plants, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department reported today.
Shawn Voss, 38, was pulled over Friday in the Alexander Valley area of Healdsburg for a broken rear taillight, sheriff's Detective Sgt. Chris Bertoli reported.
Deputy Jon Watson reportedly smelled marijuana from inside the vehicle and deployed his K-9 partner, Koogan, who located three-quarters of a pound of marijuana inside the vehicle.
Voss claimed to have a medical marijuana license, but his cannabis club card was expired, Bertoli reported. The deputy cited Voss for the vehicle code violation and let him go.
The Sonoma County Narcotic Task Force was contacted shortly after the traffic stop. The task force served a search warrant on a Bodega Bay residence rented by Voss and reportedly discovered a complex indoor marijuana growing operation, Bertoli reported. The residence was converted to contain four grow rooms and a starter room for young plants.
In addition to 89 marijuana plants, the task force also discovered documentation leading to a second grow operation on Dyer Road in Graton, according to Bertoli. A search of that residence turned up 1,590 plants and 472 germinating seedlings. Sheriff's deputies also seized 10 pounds of dried marijuana from a second building on the property.
Beroli estimated that when the plants were finished growing, they could have produced as much as 415 pounds of dried marijuana, worth an estimated $954,500.
The task force arrested Voss for alleged cultivation of marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to sell.
