New Jersey - A Sewell man's marijuana-growing facility went up in smoke Wednesday after police claim a condominium fire led to the discovery of more than 280 pot plants. Winslow Township police told local media that firefighters discovered the indoor facility, located at a Kenwood Drive condo complex in Sicklerville, held 283 plants valued at nearly $570,000.
At a different address in Sewell, Bendetto Taormina, 41, reportedly had a half-pound of processed marijuana, as well as packaging and cultivation material, according to authorities. Authorities said no injuries followed the Sicklerville fire. It was reportedly contained to the same floor that Taormina's facility was on. An "underground bunker was being used as a grow facility" where eight more plants were found, according to police. Taormina was charged Thursday with maintaining a drug-production facility and possession of an illegal drug with intent to distribute. He was released on an unspecified bail amount.
