UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GSC

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

I've not tried any of these teas as you probably well know UncleC but if they're this easy I'll be doing them all day long :) I recently saw one guy on his thread that had an easy recipe (banana, watermelon and things) that he blends up then leaves to ferment over a period of weeks and thought that was a winner for someone like me that's new to organics, I really don't want to be messing with aeration bubblers and leaving things on the stove overnight etc (I think you may have posted on that thread when it started but I would need to check back to be sure). That way of doing things would be much easier and less daunting for newcomers like myself, but something like this. Damn we make our own soups all the time so maybe if I leave the seasoning until the last moments I could make a detour with some of it and keep my plants happy (Finally wahey!). I hope it works well UncleC, I'm interested to see how it goes. All the best :thumb:

My grandmother buried her kitchen scraps directly in her veggie garden, between rows. The largest most productive plants were those that were lucky enough to be nearby.

Great idea. Have been thinking about doing this with some kitchen scraps just to see what happens.. You still get the organic matter at the end for compost also so win win..

Great innovation on the veg/fruit broth for plants! Vitamins & minerals galore it would seem.:Namaste:

Thanks Brightlight. I agree, there should be lots of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes contained in the broth.

Although there are lots of benefits to be had by using ACT's you can also end up with some really nasty microbial bugs if the teas are not prepared properly.
I'll be using this veggie soup thing as both a foliar (young plants in veg only) as well as a vitamin supplement added to my regular watering. I'll let you know how it works out.

Grandma knows best. :)
My grandparents did similar things as well. Folks back in those days found ways to reuse or re-purpose almost everything in some kind of way shape or form. Not much waste went to waste that's for sure.

My thoughts exactly. We'll see how this works out.

I
Vegetable Soup for Girlz

Yesterday evening I went to my local supermarket to stock up on humanoid nutrients and decided to bring along a couple of 5 gallon buckets with the hopes of scoring some free plant nutrients while I was there.

I got with the store manager and asked if they had some old produce out back that was to be disposed of for use in my compost bins. He brought me to the warehouse area and pointed me toward some boxes of old produce and told me to have at and take all that I wanted.
:high-five::adore::adore:
So I filled up my 2 buckets with lots of goodies and brought them home along with my human nutes.
Most of it went into my bins but I took an assortment of the veggies and am making a veggie soup that will ultimately end up in the garden.

Ingredients include:
Bananas - Broccoli - Carrots - Cauliflower - Onions - Potatoes - Celery - Parsley - Grapes - Kale - Cabbage - Aloe Vera (from my garden)

thumb_IMG_1930_1024.jpg

I cut everything up in small pieces and let slowly boil in a large pot for 15 minutes then simmer for another 15 minutes.
Once cool I'll filter out the veg matter and put into my bins. The filtered liquid will be used as a tea at a 1:5 soup to water ratio.

It smells good enough to eat. I may put some aside, add a bit of salt and pepper, maybe some garlic, and try some myself before feeding it to my girls. Crash Test Uncle if you will. LOL!

Have any of you ever used this type of tea/veggie soup for your MJ plants before? This is a first for me so any advice would be appreciated.
:peace:

I'd almost bet my life the NuttyProfessor has tried something like this. If not, when you mention it he will. LOL! Check him out. He's all about odd additives to grow kick-ass cannabis. Kinda like you. Here kiss on the cheek. :kisstwo: That was a bang-up summation of real-world solutions for using the blumats. You sir, deserve a hug as well. :hugs:

I like the way you put so much effort into what you do. And all to give it away for free here so other people can grow better cannabis themselves. You're one of my favorite neighbors here. :passitleft:

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

This was one those brain fart ideas that I often get so it was done in haste without any background investigations. There may be a better way to extract the vitamins, minerals, enzymes, etc.
The high temps from boiling may result in nutrient loses or reduce the effectiveness. I really need to look into this a bit further.

I can imagine you darling man. I get caught on the other end of moments like that all the time. It's nice every now and then to be the giver of that kind of thrill, isn't it? You play nice. I'm aware I can be a handful. I make up for it with passion and I come bearing gifts. :passitleft:

Veggie Soup for Girlz - Update

Now that my veggie soup/broth has cooled, settled, and the solids filtered out I checked the EC levels with a few different soup to water ratios. Here's what we've got.

Straight filtered veggie soup -
EC = 3.93 / PH = 6.3

Veggie Soup mixed at a ratio of 1 part soup to 4 parts tap water (1:4) -
EC = 1.49

Veggie Soup mixed at a ratio of 1 part soup to 5 parts tap water (1:5) -
EC = 1.26

41396.jpg

Veggie Soup mixed at a ratio of 1 part soup to 6 parts tap water (1:6) -
EC = 1.01 / PH = 7.2

51145.jpg

Now what does this all mean?
This means that it would probably be a bad idea to make a veggie soup and water your plants with it or spray as a foliar w/o first diluting with lots of water.

To give you an idea of the strength of the undiluted soup mix it may be good to compare the EC levels with those of bottled nutrient solutions that are used in synthetic/non-organic nutrient or bottled organic nutrient grows using soilless mixes.
It appears that most bottled nutrient solutions are applied at EC levels of around 2.2 or less.
**Those who've used bottled nutes feel free to correct me as I don't have much experience with bottled nutes.
So applying an undiluted veggie soup solution with an EC level of almost 4.0 would likely do more harm than good. I'd say that it may even have the potential to result in premature death or negligent plant-slaughter.

I'll plan to water once using a dilution ratio of 1:6 (EC = @ 1.0)
If I use as a foliar I'll dilute to an EC of approximately 0.6 or less.

PS - Your EC & PH readings may vary depending on raw material ingredients, produce to water ratios when cooking, tap water versus RO or bottled water, etc...
This is only meant to demonstrate the potential for harm when using DIY plant potions.

What about slow cooking at low temps for longer? Or just aerated kitchen scraps tea..Soup is good for us, so not all the goodness is cooked out. I was always under the impression that that was the problem with "old skool" boiling of veges... cooked for too long at high temps, then all the actual goodness is tossed down the sink, while the food is nothing more than mushy matter. Drink the water too, and get (at least some of) the nutrient....
I'm just speculating wildly. But SSTs are essentially cold cabbage soup..(yes, the enzymes also); so surely lightly cooked veges/soup would have some benefit...????
For the soils benefit...
Just remember to forget the salt...

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

I must admit that it was difficult to not add salt and some cracked pepper.
There will be 2 pots on the stove next time. One for the girls and one for me.

Cooking will dissolve the vitamins and nutrients out of the flesh of the vegetables. I have no doubts about that.
My concern, not that it's really a concern, would be if and how much of which vitamins and/or nutrients may be escaping as a gas while cooking.
No matter how it's prepared you should still end up with a vitamin and nutrient rich soup mixture once done.
Modifying the preparation method would just be an effort to optimize vitamin and nutrient retention within the water solution as well as optimizing removal of the vitamins and nutrients from the solid material during preparation. Splitting hairs really.

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

Veggie nutritional values are effected by preparation methods and length of time. Some produce is best boiled others steamed, baked, griddle etc. or left uncooked. It is amazing that some plant matter would benefit more from one method than another. As we know from our favorite and wonderful plant, different methods of ingestion produce different results and variance of carboxylation temp. and time produce different results in types and/or levels of cannabinoids. Isn't life incredible.

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

That's exactly what I meant Happy Hemper.

I used to date a girl that's a nutritionist. While whipping up some my famous culinary creations she would always be looking over my shoulder trying to see what I was doing all the while telling me how it would be "better" to do things this way or that way instead of the way that I was doing things in order to preserve the nutritional value of veggies and whatnot.

I should have paid attention instead of telling her things like "won't you leave me be and go eat a carrot or something". LOL!!

I always found it odd that the girl knew so much about foods and nutrition but couldn't even make a boiled egg taste good. The girl was a horrible cook. Things that make you go hummm....??

Does anyone remember these baby girls?

thumb_IMG_1792_1024.jpg

Well that was then, this is now.

16097.jpg

They're all looking very healthy and are starting to kick things into high gear now that they've been transplanted to 1 gal pots and placed under an LED lamp.

This is a Fruity Juice from Sensi Seeds. Notice how tight her node spacing is.

This is the first time I do early veg under LED's and I must say that so far, I'm very pleased with growth rates and overall plant health.
Node spacing is a bit too tight for my liking though.

I see some pretty nice strains in there.
Grape Stomper, Tangie, Cherry OG....
Man after my own heart.

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

Yeah buddy. There are some fine genetics in this batch. But I'm sure it pales in comparison to what's on offer at your new place of employment. :)

I can only dream of all of the girls that you're exposed to on a daily basis.
When I grow up I wanna play in da' big garden just like cajuncelt. LOL!
