BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB assistant coach Pat Donohoe has resigned, 10 days after his arrest on a marijuana possession charge.
Donohoe, 51, submitted a letter of resignation to head coach and athletic director Watson Brown on Monday while maintaining his innocence.
He was arrested while on a recruiting trip and was charged with possession of marijuana in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor. The defensive line coach had been on the UAB staff since Brown arrived in 1995.
"Despite my actual innocence on the specific charge brought against me, I feel compelled to restore the honor and good name of the UAB football program, and the university itself, in the only way now possible," Donohoe said in the letter.
