type of ballast 400 watt hps?

So im building a small hydro system with two 400 watt hps bulbs and being the dummy i am i did not realize i needed ballasts..... A local grow shop told me he carries them for about $150.00 a piece, should i be spending this much money ($300.00)? I did a quick online search and see them for like $50.00 a piece. Any information will be helpful.
