Houston - The drummer for Grammy-nominated rock trio Los Lonely Boys was free on bond on Friday following a marijuana arrest stemming from a police search of his Texas home in a sexual assault investigation, records show.
Ringo Garza, 23, and his wife, Lenora, 24, were arrested on Thursday at their San Angelo home, then released the same day on $1,000 bond. Each is charged with possession of less than two ounces of marijuana.
Police visited the home at the request of two women who, according to the police report, said they believed they had been drugged, taken to the house and raped by an unidentified person or persons.
"Both the victims believed that something (happened) to them because the way their body felt," the police report stated.
No assault charges had been filed against anyone as of Friday, and the case remained under investigation, police said.
Garza's lawyer, Dahr Jamail, said he had not seen the police report but was confident his client was innocent of any wrongdoing.
"It's inappropriate and disrespectful to the courts to try any case in the press or in the newspapers," Jamail told Reuters. "We look forward to the police doing their job, and the court system is one we trust fully. Ringo will be cleared of any things that are being said about him."
Jamail also said of the band: "These boys have been very popular very, very quickly, and because of their popularity, they certainly attract a lot of attention."
The Tex-Mex rock band, hailing from the small Texas town of San Angelo, consists of three Garza brothers -- guitarist Henry, bassist JoJo and drummer Ringo.
The group's 2004 self-titled debut album sold 1.7 million U.S. copies and earned four Grammy nominations, including a nod for record of the year for its hit single "Heaven." The band also was nominated as best new artist.
