Two Philips Daylight 315s - Six Secret Jardin 22W/55W LED Strips - Four Painkiller XL

Hi, my grow tent been out of action since August but we're up and running again.

I have improved the venting - previously I was running two x 5 inch 225L/hr RVK inline fans with Rhino carbon filters.

I have added another 5 inch RVK inline fan but this time got the 323L/hr model and have switched to Mountain Air carbon filters as they are bigger and better.

I have used aluminium Y piece ducting to combine the outward vent ducting and channel them all thru one out vent in the wall, building a sealed output that fits over the hole in the wall.

I am really looking forward to seeing how cool the room runs now with this improvement. Last time (summer heatwave) it got to 35C at some points, which slowed growth.

Right now with just the two 315s running the canopy temp is sitting at 26C, and it drops to 19C in the dark. I have yet to turn on the LED strips, will wait till i flip.

I have got a small oil filled heater just outside the tent with the air intake tube on it, set with timer and thermostat to come on in the dark when the temp outside the tent is lower than 20C.

I am running 6hr on 2 hr off light cycle - they have been in veg with me for a week now - though when i got them they had been sitting in my mate's mother tent for ten weeks - they were about two feet tall but going straight up - i had to chop six inches off the top and they got a bit snapped up when i was bending them down to get into SCROG shape

I LST my plants as wide as possible, pull the branches apart, get the light into the middle, let the inner stems sprout out. As you can see I use electrical wire thru holes in the rim of the pot to hold the branches in place.

I plan to veg for no more than two weeks from now - last time i flipped a little late I think and ended up with chest height monsters.

The lights were right to the top of the tent with no more room to move - the top end temp got too high with it being summer but there was no way to drop it as the lights were raised to their max.

They are dialled in now nutes & temp wise and going for it every day - new growth is obvious and exciting to see. When I flip em their surge will be immense I am sure.

I am using Gold Label nute range with some extras from green planet and a few others, pH 6.0. They are in coco 60/40 with air domes in the roots.

And here's the babies - you can see where they got a bit snapped but hey ho, add some tape wait a week & they are even stronger

There's a humidifier in there too misting it up - without it RH was down around 30% - there is a lot of air being extracted from the tent but the humidifier raises the RH to just over 40%.

Subbed up! Nice looking setup, 3 filters?! No wonder there's such a crazy run of ducting! .✌️️ Close neighbours?

No neighbours on that side of the house ;)

Tbh it is my quietest setup yet - previously I had four small fans up at the top of the tent to move warm air but they didn't do much but make a load of noise. So i dumped them in a bag in the attic lol.

Also my previous floor fan was bigger (12inch) and oscillating - but it made noise - I had suspended it using elastic rope to reduce vibration but it was still noisy - I am using a smaller 8 inch fixed fan now which is quieter.

I have realised that there is a fairly minimal need to blow air over the plants and you can do damage doing this too much so have reduced leaf blow. I am aiming the fan at the wall low down so it just makes sure the fresh air in circulates well. With all the extraction there's plenty movement within the tent.

All of the inline fans are suspended on elastic rope, so there is pretty much zero vibration from them - the only noticeable vibration comes from the pump that feeds air into the pots/roots - that is sitting on a few layers of foam so doesn't put too much wobble into the floorboards. And it's turned down low. Most of the noise is just moving air which doesn't travel far thru a closed door.

The outside vent is high up on an external wall, far too high to hear anything. :)

Re: Two Philips Daylight 315s - Six Secret Jardin 22W/55W LED Strips - Four Painkille

Decided to turn on the two blue (veg) LED strips

Went to work night shift, came back and checked almost 24 hours later and they have been busy growing!

I love this stage, when the conditions are right they are prolific in growth, you can see a difference in a day!

Had been wondering when to top em - did that this afternoon - took the ends off the main branches to get em to bush out even more :-)

That last shot you can see how one of the splits I caused when potting em in ten days ago has healed and become stronger :)

Yeah a mate does my clones for me and i give him a qtr back for each one a few months later

Didn't take pics (slacker) but they were about ten weeks old, two feet tall and gone too woody - had to chop six inches off and snap em a bit to stretch em out

Also today I edged the EC up to 1.5 ... Slowly does it ...

Re: Two Philips Daylight 315s - Six Secret Jardin 22W/55W LED Strips - Four Painkille

Subbed in as ever, my setup needs a good upgrade to beat the 12oz/600w harvests! So 1 x 315w philips daylight going in today with another one being ordered if I see good things this time round. I'm sure I can stretch to 6 x 22w LED strips too. Think aeration of my roots in the coco has been getting overlooked in my autopots as well so I'll get some air domes ordered. Good to hear they have some positive results! Good luck with the grow!

Hi Combat Wombat!

You will love the 315s! Awesome pieces of kit they are - you will make the cost back in one grow no worries

How is your extraction? those 600w HPS can sure build the heat up - do you air cool the lamp?

The 315s make less heat than the HPS for sure but you will need to extract warm air from the top of the tent or it will build up if you are running HPS & 315 together

Deffo a good idea to aerate your roots bro! it's lack of air that can cause rot in em I think
