Still on the fence over medical cannabis?
There are two seminars coming up to help with that decision.
Natures Decision will be holding a seminar to educate the public on the benefits of using medical cannabis to treat a number of health issues on Saturday, May 7.
Hosted by Natures Decision and medical cannabis consultant Julie Chevrier, the seminar will be held at the Best Western Parkway Inn. The day will be broken into two parts, the first running from 9 a.m. until about 11:30 a.m.
"I'm getting a lot of questions and good responses about attending," said Chevrier. "We're going to have a motivational speaker in the morning. He is a very relaxed and open minded man who has a few things to say. We like his energy."
After his talk, Chevrier will give a presentation on how to get a medical marijuana prescription, and then a talk from a person who has been involved in the medical marijuana industry since it has been legalized.
"He has been a wealth of information for us," said Chevrier. "He is also in the middle of becoming a licensed producer."
A question-and-answer period will follow before breaking for lunch.
After the lunch break at 1 p.m. Dr. Goldberg from Cannascribe will talk about the uses of medical marijuana.
"Dr. Goldberg prescribes for Cannascribe and for Natures Decision as well," said Chevier. "We are working all on the same team to help people get access to a prescription."
After the doctor's presentation, another person will be speaking on the legal aspects of medical marijuana.
"He also has experience with work-related injuries, chronic pain, workers compensation," said Chevier. "He could possibly help to get prescription paid for by an insurance company."
Chevier said recently Sunlife paid for a medical marijuana prescription and this opened the doors for other private insurance companies.
"It's a whole new beginning," she said.
The day should wrap up around 4 p.m. and there will be plenty of time to ask questions. Registration by calling 613-935-7757 or emailing naturesdecision@mail.com.
Medical Arts Pharmacy is also holding a medical marijuana seminar on Thursday, May 12 at the Ramada Inn. This seminar, which is targeted to health-care professionals, starts with registration at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. with the lecture beginning at 7:30.
This lecture is called The Rapidly Evolving Landscape of Medical Marijuana with context for local prescribers, caregivers and pharmacists. Guest consultant for the physician perspective is Dr. Dean Ducas. Guest consultant for the patient perspective is Craig Rowe, RN, BSCN, Professor in the Health Sciences department of St. Lawrence College.
There is limited seating for this event, so those interested should contact Leslie at leslie@medicalartspharmacy.ca or 613-932-6501 ext. 238.
