Cannabis with an estimated street value of £9m has been recovered in what police believe is the biggest single seizure of the drug in Sussex.

Two people have been charged after the drugs raids on houses in East Sussex.

They are accused of offences related to cannabis importation and will appear at Eastbourne Magistrates' Court.

Detectives from Sussex Police's Serious and Organised Crime Unit seized 1.8 tonnes of cannabis resin from a house at Sandy Cross at 1700 BST on Friday.

A search warrant was executed soon afterwards at a house in Station Road, Hailsham, where a woman was arrested.

The 37-year-old, who has been released on police bail until 27 January 2011, was arrested at another Hailsham address.
