The Tulare County Board of Supervisors voted to begin selling the cards in July.
For $100 a year, patients will be able to carry the card without fear of prosecution from the county.

About 300 people are expected to take part in the program.

County leaders admit selling medical marijuana ID cards is a risky business.

"I had an experience with someone professing to have medical reasons to have medical marijuana, who were sharing it with underage teenagers," said Tulare County Supervisor Phil Cox.

Supporters hope other Valley counties will follow Tulare's lead.

Fresno County is working on its own plan and could begin selling ID cards this summer.
