Tucson Police arrested an attorney on charges of conspiracy to traffic drugs, saying he knowingly provided counsel to a marijuana trafficking ring.
Hector A. Montoya, 48, who was taken into custody at his office, was among more than two dozen people arrested this week in an investigation targeting the suspected ring.
Authorities say the group negotiated with Mexican marijuana suppliers and Jamaican smugglers to bring up to $1 million worth of marijuana into Tucson-area stash houses every day.
A message left early Friday at Montoya's office seeking comment on the arrest wasn't immediately returned.
Investigators with the multi-agency Counter Narcotics Alliance believe Montoya "knowingly provided services that forwarded the illegal activities" of the ring through his position as an attorney, said Sgt. Judy Altieri, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman.
