Trimming the moms?

I was just wondering about trimming off (or some of) the big fan leaves on the mothers so more light can get to the branches? Is this ok or not a good idea? (I haven't been able to find much information on the subject).
I know that it's not recommended for flowering stages but what about a mom that will always be in veg state?

A few leaves here and there won't hurt. Moms are a little different as you want to control growth rate so they produce clones but don't get too bushy for their space. Periodic pruning and root trimming are neccessary. One can avoid root trimming by transplanting but eventually you will run out of room for a container if you keep going up in size.
