The Delaware State Police have charged a New Jersey man with illegal drug possession after he was stopped for a traffic violation.
Police say the incident occurred around 9:10 p.m. Thursday January 29, as a trooper on routine patrol in the area of Sussex Highway (US13) and Camp Road observed a white Chevrolet Malibu traveling southbound on US13 above the posted speed limit. The trooper performed a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of County Seat Highway (US9) and made contact with the operator,George E. Bolzoni, 27 of Union City, New Jersey.
As the trooper began questioning Bolzoni about the car and his destination, police say he began exhibiting suspicious behavior and continued to change his story on where he was heading.
Police say they conducted a consent search on the vehicle and upon opening the trunk, three large sealed cardboard mailing boxes were located. When the operator was unable to explain the contents of the boxes, a state police drug K9 was contacted to conduct a scan of the vehicle. A positive alert to the presence of narcotics in the boxes was detected by the K9 while walking around the vehicle. Upon opening boxes, troopers say they discovered nine vacuum sealed packages of marijuana, with an approximate combined weight of 4,725 grams.
Troopers took George Bolzoni into custody and transported him to Troop 5 where he was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 4 Quantity (Marijuana), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Speeding. He was arraigned at JP3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $20,500.00 secured bond.
