Town Bans Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Town Meeting has approved a bylaw prohibiting medical marijuana dispensaries from locating in Wakefield. The action followed passage Nov. 6 of the statewide ballot question legalizing medical marijuana. In other business, Town Meeting approved spending requests to make repairs to the Americal Civic Center, and to relocate or replace a culvert that runs under the Galvin Middle School. It also appropriated money to fund contracts with several town unions; to pay increases for nonunion employees and some department heads; and to add to a trust fund for medical insurance expenses for town retirees. It also agreed to use a grant from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority for the town's program to reduce inflow and infiltration of storm water into the sewer system. The article also authorized the town to fund its share of the program.
