Topping advice

Hi all, this is more of a question of opinions. I will be topping all of the side colars in veg of my plants I have fimmed and LST so far. I want to get them nice and bushy before the trellis goes onto them. So will be topping each top.

My question is when is the best time to top? Lights off/lights on just as lights are coming on or off. Feed/water before or leave feed and watering for a couple days after. How many nodes should each branch be before topping and lastly how far away from a supercrop knuckle should I be before topping?
