Too much light?

i have a tent that is a total of 40 sq feet ( 4*2*5) in which i have a 1000wt light system which is set up so its not hot at all inside with my cooling system, my question is this................... is this too much light? what are the pro's and con's of doing this? i know my bill will be higher but thats not a prob. is there "too" much light and will this help to increase yield?
:Namaste:

Ya know,

I would also like to know if there is such a thing as too much. I'm building a 4'x3'x5' tall box and can't decide between a 600w or a 1000w. Don't want too little or too much.

I would be keen to hear from an expert on this but I doubt there is much to it as not many growers have the problem of too much light.

As far as I know, as long as the lights aren't too close to the plants as to burn them then really, give them as much as you can. After all you are trying to replicate the sun. . .

I hope my thought are of some help. :)

First you do not have 40 sq feet... you have 40 cubic feet. you have 8 sq feet (4x2=8). Yes there is a such thing as light toxicity. If you do a search this exact question was ask about 2 weeks ago. Short answer is: for 8 sq ft you need about 400 watts. You will be well above the light saturation point at 125 watts of HID per sq foot. the min recommended for flowering is 50. You have 4.5 times that amount.

pros = none
cons = higher power bill .

If its a HPS light then 1000W will stretch the heck out of ur plants .
Best lighting system for ur size area is 400W MH to veggie with then , 600W HPS for budding and flowering. you could even use 400W HPS .
But seeing as u want more light just go with the 600W :)
If you want bigger buds and a greater yield lighting over 600W in ur area is just a waste , instead use that extra $20-30 a month u will be saving on ur power bill and buy some good flower blooming nutrients that r designed just for weed growers.

Overall more light is just a waste but wont hurt anything if ur heat is at a stable temp.

Cool,

thanks for the info. Sorry if I hijacked the thread a little bit.

The savings from a 600 to a 1000 w is barely even gonna show on your bill. You're talking roughly 40cents a day. No there is no such thing as too much light.. You take a light meter outside during a sunny day and it will register way more than you could get with 10 1000w hids. As long as you have proper ventilation to control heat and keep lights high enough to keep from burning plants you're good to go

I am using the same exact tent, but using 600HPS for flowering.
I believe I may be getting light burn.
Temp is under control, but lamp was about 12 inches from tops and these are what the canopy leaves look like...

I just lowered the plants and raised the light.
I'm not sure if the color will come back.
I've been searching forums for an answer to a similar question!!
