Tips for growing in Coco?

Hey everyone,

I am growing in Coco for the first time (handwatering) and am wondering if anyone has any tips? I am using clones and using GH Flora Nova nutrients. Any and all tips would be appreciated, as I have always grown in FoxFarm Happyfrog soil before with varied success. I am planning on doing SOG single cola girls in party cups in a 4 x 2 area, hopefully fitting 4 per square foot. I have a Lumatek 400 Watt HPS and am also wondering if I should upgrade to a 600 watt. Any idea what yields will be on this? (7 - 14 days veg, 8 weeks flower).

ALL TIPS WOULD BE APPRECIATED ESPECIALLY FROM GROW SUPPORT!!!

Hi Guys, I grow in coco. I add 25-30% perlite to the well rinsed coco. Why, some grow in straight coco coir? Because I like to feed daily, by hand. Fox Farm is what I use. Grow Big for veg. and Tiger Bloom and Big Bloom for flowering.
I use a pinch of Calmag in every feeding, and adding some molassas will not hurt. Growing in coco I flush 1 time per week in veg., and 2 times per week in flower (while using Tiger Bloom). After 4 weeks of flowering I stop using Tiger Bloom and use Big Bloom and molassas till the last week. Then water only.
You can add or subtract, but keep it simple. :peace:

I am still waiting for my clones to finish rooting. It has been 7 days since I started the clones, and I started them in the coco in the party cups I plan on using (I am doing SOG), so I cant see if they have rooted yet. Some of the leaves have turned yellow however, but I am not sure if that was from initial shock or not. I used rooting powder, and watered by spraying leaves and humidity dome once a day for 3 days with tap water with a 6.0 PH. After 3 days, I added General Hydroponics Bio Root to the water and adjusted the PH back to 6.0. I watered the coco again with this and sprayed some with the mister on the clones. I have been doing this once a day. Should I go back to just water?

I plan on Vegging for 7 -10 days using Flora Nova Grow and then switching to 12/12 and using Flora Nova Bloom. I have never used molasses or anything else as this is only my 2nd grow, but I have ended up with fluffy buds before and am looking to eliminate the fluffiness.

What else should I be adding as far as nutrients go? I am thinking of doing a hempy grow with this, as I have gotten some really good pots from Treepots that are taller yet still only have a 4" or so footprint. Any thoughts?

Hi, I would not spray the plants, spray the inside of the dome only. The plants are feeding from the lower leaves till the can root, thus the yellowing.
Your area is 2 X 4, 8sq. ft. You have 50 watts per sq. ft. That is enough to flower plants. You may add some reflective polymer to the walls, this will help.
The pots sound perfect for your style of grow.

Sounds good.

what size pots?

Hi Setting Sun, I like your handle alot. That said, With a 2 gal. grow bag, about an oz. That is an average, plants vary. (16 to 40 g.) I believe I can get the same from a 1 gal. smart pot. The grow would have to be dialed in first. Qaulity is important in growing medical grade cannabis. :peace:

I ph to 5.5 with vinegar. It'll drift up fine in a day or two max. Use a lot of perlite to keep drainage super high. It helps a lot with using fast drifting vinegar. One spoon of 3% (10 vol) stabalized h2o2 per 5 liters. BioBizz Bio grow added in flowering periodically at no more than 2ml/5L. Epson salts added once a week to two weeks. The GHE floranova is pretty good on this. Calcium issues will always be around the corner, plan for this. I ground up rinsed and oven dried egg shells and worked that into the top layer of coco with good results. Flusing with double the volume of the container with water (straight tap water until the end with ph'd water followed by low dose feeding) is essential. Flushes should be done every other week more or less, with once a month minimum (your plants will not like the build up at all, ignore the nay sayers on this one and flush). Hmm, what more, daily waters are fine but watch fungus gnat and hit the top inch of substrate with 1:4 h2o2/h2o when you see them. Your soil should sound like it's cooking. That's a good thing! ^_^ I have never seen a single issue with this all the above until recently when I cooked my Super Lemon Hazes until near death. So be ever so attentive to sensitive plants because issues show fast with coco. Flushing again...

Oh and have some to say on cloning. If you do it right you'll root in 7 or 8 days say pay attention. Pre load your very clean coco with super super light hydro nutes (ghe at 1ml or less per 5L). pH like normal at 5.8 (not 5.5 on this one). Cut your leaf blades to avoid excessive yellowing of the leaves that would otherwise drop off later if rooting takes to long. Leave small leaves at the top alone. Don't spray the clones bro... lol. Humity 100% for the first 4 days. Keep the coco wet with super light feedings after day 4.

There ya go, that's what I got. Most I learned from forums like these so this is my gift formal thank you to everyone out there in the online cannabis massive. Blessed

thanks cocoJoe!

Totally agree about quality.

One oz per gallon bag would be very nice!
