Time to top?

When is it advisable to top my plants? What size or age is it recommended to do this? Any help appreciated............

Basic topping is applied when the sixth node appears, i.e. the sixth set of leaves, cut it off. This will make the plant split into two tops instead of just one. Leave them on veg for a little longer to allow the plant to recover, and then switch to flowering.

However, some strains do not respond well to topping, it's best to know what strain you are working with.

For FIM, you cut only about 80% of the sixth node off, leaving about 20% intact and on the plant. This makes the plant grow multiple tops, more than two. This is best when used in conjuntion with SOG, to keep the plants from getting too tall and insted making them bushier.

Strong Sativa strains respond well to topping. They want to grow tall and thin, but by topping them you force the bottom growth to fill in making a bushier plant. More Indica dominant strains on the other hand already want to form bushy undergrowth and a huge main bud, therefore topping is not as necessary. I know that Chronic is one strain that should not be topped in any way. Plants like these want to form a large main bud and topping ruins this plants production by stunting it's growth where the plant needs it most.

I thought the "White" strains were mainly Sativa-dominant strains? If so I believe they would respond well. Perhaps not to FIM, but topping may be a good idea.

I am sorry, but I am wholly unfamiliar with the "White" families patterns of growth. Maybe someone else who has grown some "White" strain will post some input about topping.

The strain is Medusa.

From what I read here, Medusa is an Indica-Sativa mix. To what ratio, I am unsure. But typically when plant say they are "moderate yeilders" it is probably best not to top it to allow the top bud to develope into one large mass. I would not top and allow the plant's top to form naturally to retain the top buds heavier weight. Thats just my opinion though, and some other with more experience with this strain may have different advice.
