Police in Iowa City have arrested three roommates on charges of growing and selling marijuana out of their Iowa City home.

According to criminal complaints, police executed a narcotics search warrant at 2151 Keokuk St., No. 14 on Sept. 30. Residents of the home included Christopher J. Reasoner, 20; Simon R. Olesen, 21; and Taryn M. Stroud, 18.

On Sept. 21, police said they used a confidential informant to buy marijuana from Reasoner and Stroud. The informant was able to buy the drugs in exchange for cash while detectives monitored the transaction. After the purchase, police were able to obtain a search warrant.

While executing the warrant, police said officers allegedly found mature marijuana plants being grown, cultivated marijuana, packaging materials, a scale, cash, grow lights, and several other items used for the sale and distribution of marijuana.

Police added when they went to the home to serve the warrant, the defendants were throwing a party where marijuana was being used. While being read their rights, all three defendants admitted to growing and selling marijuana, police said.

All of the roommates were charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and an Iowa drug tax stamp violation — both felonies — and a misdemeanor charge of keeping a drug house. Reasoner and Stroud received additional charges of possession with intent to deliver for their role in selling to a police informant as well as a charge for gathering for use of drugs, both felonies.
