TheBlaze: Genesis, Chapter 1, Verse 1

Queen Sativa is a picture perfect plant Blaze. .

Thank you for the compliment Penny. I won't lie... it feels great to get a pat on the back. :cheesygrinsmiley:

If you have the room, there is not a lot of benefit to training. Speed is what is more important to me. If i was growing in a small tent with limited plants and room then I'd train. Otherwise I do top and lollipop, much the same concept of an apple tree. .

Yeah, lately I've been wondering just how much training actually benefits a plant in terms of yield. In the past I've noticed that topping once adds about 10% extra yield, but that "experiment" was flawed as the plants that didn't get topped were less vigorous in veg and the sole reason they weren't topped in the first place. I do notice I waste alot of yield in popcorn. About 100g in this round alone. So from now on, I will lollipop more aggressively.

Ive backed way off on training with the last grow and was pleased with the results. 1 topping and some lst early to give lower nodes some light then i let them do their thing. 3/4 pound from 4 plants. And less time in veg means a quicker turn around.

Yeah, exactly. Training has it's place obviously. I had to top aggressively with the new girls, just to keep their height in check, but if height wasn't an issue and there was enough wattage I don't think topping would make much difference either way. As I mentioned in my previous post, 100g of popcorn is a 100g wasted. I give it away. If I could reclaim just 30% of that with lollipopping, then that would equate to an extra 30g. Easiest 30g you will ever get. I'm going to try it with the new girls.

Now that I'm not so overloaded with work, I should make an effort to follow your journal more closely. I see I'm behind again. LOL!

I am keen to see your results bud.

Blaze, could you divert some of the energy from popcorn to tops with defoliation? Be aggressive with the lower branches that wouldn't reach the canopy?

That's a relevant consideration for me now. I've done very little defol on my current LA2 lady and seem destined for more popcorn, but I'm gun shy after doing too much on my round 1 LA2. The Kushy Kush I've defoliated more aggressively has far less potential popcorn and far stronger tops, part of which is genetics I'm sure but part of which might be due to the defol.

Defoliation will provide more energy for popcorn buds to pack on a little more weight, but I don't think it will divert energy. Lolipopping and defol will do a much better job of that in my opinion.

If you want more weight, throw in an HPS light into your flower tent, and make sure your temps and humidity stay stable. It will cost you some money, but the results will be worth it. You grow with LED right? If so, run both LED and HPS together.

UPDATE

Day 18 and day 11 of 12/12

Organic rocks! Really enjoying this method of growing.

Purple Envy (18 days) on the left and strawberry diesel (11 days) on the right.

Thanks bud

I can't believe it's taken me 5 years to try organics. I absolutely love it. There is so much to learn about it as well.

Amazing looking girls Blaze. Now these girls are way more my style! All 4 of them even and bushy! You are going to net some monster numbers off these, I'm calling it now. I'll make sure I am not up against you in POTM when you get pictures of these ones when they finish. They are prime to be beautiful girls.

Thanks my man, but it's still a long way to the finish line. ;) I hope you're right though. I also have high hopes.

Thanks Pat! Everyone keeps telling me organic yields less. I guess we will find out soon enough.

I guess the question then becomes, is there enough quality difference to justify the lower yield? They look great either way Blaze. That said is this the start of you growing exclusively organic? Do you think you'll grow something organic that you grew previously in hydro so that you can compare?

I'm not sure if it will indeed yield less. These plants should yield quite a bit but they also had a longer veg time, so the results won't be conclusive.

It might be a while before I run previous strains in the soil as well, because I'm also leaning more towards regs going forward. I have my eye on some mosca and kingdom organic seeds gear. If these plants finish as I expect them to, then I will be running organic for a while to come. I can't say I won't ever do coco again though. It is still where all my experience lies.
