The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

From a 15g second round no till pot that has had mulch added the whole time. SST and top dressings randomly. Another month left at least. I try to keep a layer about an inch thick of mulch, and add to it with veg trimmings, culled plants, and weeds or clippings from around the property. I already do all of this besides the SST, but sprouting seeds is easy and I use it for all the gardens. Main difference, when I mulch inside, I make sure to cut it into smaller/finer pieces, and I don't layer it as much
6-10" outside, 1/2 - 1" inside is how I do it.

Thank you 36. This is precisely what I've been doing with my pots, with the addition of a small amount of rock dust tossed in. I find for my small pots an even finer cut makes sense, and I'd be well advised to begin composting another batch of it for future use. It's remembering to spritz the surface every now and then. I get distracted easily and forget. Top-dressing works better with top watering.

Lately I find myself wondering if I could get one of these small pots to work as a no-till. I know, crazy huh? But the soil in that no-till stunned me. A few worms would help the cause.

Oooo... Maybe if I ran a no-till pot for a year then transferred that soil into a few smaller pots to keep say... three small pots off to a side. :hmmm: Interesting thought. Long-term planning.

Sorry guys, I keep doing that more and more often in public. If I'm not careful I'll develop a reputation for being eccentric. :laughtwo:

Coffee and the tent call. :ciao:

Oh yeah, 36 - WOW!!! Let me just come close to that! :laughtwo:

It's been real handy being friends with Graytail. Because of that developing friendship I tend to watch for him on the horizon and sneak up behind to listen in on conversations. One of those recent conversations contained his method of checking the viability of the cooking kit soil by plunging a handful of leaves into the bin and checking on it in a few days. I did that about three or four days ago, with some Roots! sprinkled over it and a light spritz of water. Today I opened the bin to transplant the Bubblegum and smiled. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Some interesting growth going on here in the center, eh?

Look - down here under that new leaf. What do you think? New fan? Is that even possible?

This girl has turned out to be fun to play with. I'm thinking keep three small pots going at all times. I find I like these little darlings, and they really pack it on as they make the run to harvest.

These little ones in the azalea pots are incredibly easy to play around with. I do believe that's the pot of choice for this part of my grow adventure. Hear me already preparing to keep a tiny pot perpetual going? :laughtwo: Just three. Just three. :battingeyelashes:

There it sits on the other side of the room. From here I can clearly see where I need to make the cut to top it. Now all I need is the nerve to make that first cut.

Deep breath Girl.

Auto Jack Herer (Day 70) Right before the second CAT drench. Ooooo. Frosty already. Yeah!! :slide:

Drenches

Today I transplanted the Original Bubblegum into an azalea pot, so it got the standard Transplant/Tea drench that accompanies a transplant event. It was also time to get that second CAT into the Auto Jack Herer. I'm running late on that one, so in an attempt to keep it from stalling the floral development I went a smidge light. I've tended to follow Graytail's lead in that regard, choosing light rather than recommended. I work in small pots and I see no reason to stress them any more.

I believe the majority of the leaves on my plants speak to the wisdom of that decision, so I'll be continuing along that path. He really is a good leader, isn't he? :battingeyelashes: I try to watch carefully. I'm sure he wishes I was a little less underfoot, but I'm an old woman and bold as hell, so.....no.

Auto Jack Herer (Day 70) Right before the second CAT drench.

image33131.jpg

At this point it occurred to me that this little pot could benefit from having more of that luscious soil I have sitting across the room crammed down into the open spaces where things pulled away as it dried. Then it became a matter of how do you get the soil down into those tiny spaces? That was when I remembered an old Bonsai trick I'd seen Dale pull. I grabbed a thin piece of dowel rod and used that to tamp the soil in around the edges.

image33132.jpg

That worked out quite well. :cheesygrinsmiley: After a nice topping of fresh soil I set her in the bucket for the second CAT.

image33133.jpg

The Bubblegum will sit here for a couple days to recover from the transplant before going under the T8s. Tomorrow I'll slip her under that reflector with the four lights. She just felt like that would have been too much for her today.

That CSSH looks ELECTRIC!

i remember the first time I topped one of my girls. It was the Critical Hog and I didn't want to do it. But a friend of mine guaranteed me that it would be so worth it. So, I did. And things were never the same again. I was going top all my plants from there on in.

I was so worried about losing the top of the plant that I tried, unsuccessfully, to clone the top. But she didn't make it.

That one plant, topped once, provided me with almost 7 ounces of wonder bud!

You can do it!

A Little Time in The Sun

I know foliars are supposed to be done somewhere close to lights on or off, but the reality is that this schedule is often impractical. I get them in when I can. On a good day that means haul them out to the balcony so I don't get overspray everywhere in my home.

Today was a good day.

DeLahaze in the back, is now 36 days old. The Dark Devil Auto is only 20 days. That one is exciting. :slide:

Paradise Nebula is the same age as that Dark Devil Auto, 20 days.

No DeStress for the Baby. Just along for the company and the great outdoors. Kids! :battingeyelashes:

They loved every minute of it. I didn't keep them out there for long with that fine mist of DeStress on them, but they appreciated the few minutes they got. You could tell.

Whew! I still have to get the courage up to top these Afghanis. I gotta do it. That'll be next. First I need food, and somewhere around here is coffee...there it is!

Man, these brownies are unfreakin' believable!!!

Go ahead, Sue. Top them. I know its hard to squeeze those nippers when they are around the stem of one of your precious plants, but just think how many more stems it will grow! If I can, you can. Ill squeeze your hand, if itll help.

The Blue is looking loverly as is the Kala. All your plants look spectacular.

I always hate looking at that 4-8 inches of beautiful lush top that I just cut off, sitting in my hand looking back at me with pure shock. Ack! :laughtwo:

I only topped them today. Tomorrow I'll take a look at what else can come off. Topping them was painful enough. You guys have no idea.

Sorenna, if you hadn't held my hand.... :high-five:

Almost done. One more for Ottawa Green.
