The Journey Begins, First Failures & Some Success

Let me start by saying that I have been know to have a brown thumb. Everything that I have ever tried to grow turns a nice color of brown, everything that I don't want to grow thrives. Weeds, thistle bushes etc.....
Now that recreational Marijuana is legal in Canada I thought why not try to grow some plants. I haven't smoked in years and I mean years, I am doing this because I can and as I've aged my body has started to hurt more and more. Chronic back pain is one of them and it sucks.

So I ordered some seeds, purchased a grow tent, filter system, led lights and some nutrients, Canna A and B, Cal Mag and Coco.
The seeds
Sour Jack Feminized, not auto flower
Higher in the THC range
70% Sativa and 30% Indica

Crown Royal Feminized, not auto flower
Higher in the THC range
70% Indica and 30% Sativa

The tent was a 4'wide, 4'deep, 7' high Mammoth
The filter system was 4"x12" charcoal canister with a 4" extraction fan
The Led lights were purchased off of Amazon 600 watt "grow light"

I purchased 5 seeds of each from Crop Kings.
After purchasing the seeds I read some reviews and people were just slamming them. I was like shit, did I just waist my money?
I germinated 2 of each strain and here were my results.

This was my first time trying to grow like this and well I will let all of you be the judge of how badly I did and well I totally sucked at it.

100% success rate, yep I did two of each and no problems with germination.

Seedlings took root.

Now some of you might look at the next few images and think they were doing fine.
Not the case to get them to this stage took months. I mean months. I think it was a light and temp issue. I'm not good at keeping accurate records and didn't realize I was failing in a big way with these plants.

Well, they look pretty good now, even if it did take a little time to get them there...
No real hurry, since they're not autos....
With 100% germination, that brown thumb may be greening up a bit...:)

I will keep going with the failure parts.

I was using the totes to move the plants closer toward the light. I had them stacked 4 high at one point. I was a few months into this grow and was discouraged. My brown thumb was definitely coming back to show itself.

Here is the big fail portion of this grow attempt.
We had a power outage that lasted a week and all I could do was get the generator going to heat the upper floors, keep the water running from the well and septic pumps going.

All of the plants died. I cleaned out the tent and put it all on the back burner for a while.

A few months later a buddy called me, I knew he was messing around with aquaponics and he had a medical grow license. He was going to flower one of his plants and hadn't tried doing it in a tent before. I said sure come and get it.
Well a week or so passed and he stopped by for a BBQ, we packed up the tent and the air filter. He looked at the light and said I need another one to get the amount of light needed. It would have been good for one or two small plants but, that is about it.

He also brought a couple clones he had in soil and told me to put them on the deck and see what happens.

Let the outdoor, deck garden thingy begin:

Green Crack, Feminized, not auto flower
70% Indica, 30% Sativa
High THC

This will be grown in soil with worm castings, perlite, fish compost, if that is a thing??? I have also added Fox Farms Ocean Forest Organic Blend for the final transplant that was done earlier today.

I will call this ground zero, day one for me.

This would be the 2nd transplant, first from me so, that means they were cloned in cubes, then transplanted to small cups with soil now to pots by me. Using the compost soil mix that was supplied by my buddy.

A week after transplant and they had taken off

I called up my buddy to see what he was feeding his plants, He told me plain old tomato food at 2 table spoons per gallon of water. He also told me that it won't be necessary with the soil that he put together for me. I still wanted to use some to get a little more food in there. I don't know if it has help but, I do know that it hasn't harmed the plants.

A few weeks went by with just wattering and every third day some food then I came home from work after a few really hot days and this is what I found.

I checked the soil and it was really dry, I moved them into the shade and watered them. The next day they were starting to purk up again so, I kept them in the shade for another day.

They made a full recovery and it was time to think about cloning them.

I'm still typing the rest of the failing part. I had to grab something to eat and I'm a little slow at typing... LOL

Let the cloning begin...

I went and picked up some cubes, a tray with dome and Wilson root promoter.

This is just an LED work light that I had kicking around. I am just tying the cloning thing to see if I can get them to root. If they do great if not, no real loss.

One more step left and we will be all caught up....

And now that brings us to today. I did the final transplant this morning. I went out and grabbed some larger pots and the Fox Farms Soil.

The new pots, I had to drill drain holes in the bottoms.

This is today August 11, 2019. The days are starting to get a little shorter so, I'm guessing another week or two of Veg then they will start to flower. We will see what happens.

Ok,now that I'm caught up...
Well, they look pretty good now, even if it did take a little time to get them there...
Except I'd say they look damn good now,not just pretty good...

Thanks mang

I had a huge amount of help from my buddy. Next year I will most likely plant in the spring and in the ground. I just have to research growing my own soil.

One day post transplant and looking good. Tomorrow I will do some defoliation on the inners.
Nice, just give them a few days or a week to recover from transplant before doing anything else, you don't want to do too much all at once and stress them out.

Happy growing.
