Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley seized $3.5 million worth of marijuana over the weekend.
The largest seizure happened Friday night near Rio Grande City, where agents found more than 660 pounds of pot in the trunk of a Ford Crown Victoria.
Agents had gotten a tip about the car, and when they spotted it near Garceno, the driver made an abrupt U-turn and sped toward the Rio Grande River.
The driver fled on foot, leaving the pot behind.
Several other weekend seizures brought the total amount of marijuana confiscated to more than 4,400 pounds.
