Terrapin Care Station, a locally based medical marijuana dispensary, plans to open a second location in the central Boulder building formerly occupied by Folsom Street Coffee.
Terrapin leased the 1795 Folsom St. space and intends to open in the coming weeks, officials for the dispensary said Monday. Terrapin will continue to operate its dispensary in south Boulder at 5370 Manhattan Circle, officials said.
Earlier this year, Folsom St. Coffee closed its Boulder café after eight years in business. Owner Chris Warner said at the time that his business was not able to recover from the economic downturn.
Warner closed the coffee shop and sold the property his family owned for 50 years to local developer Stephen Tebo. The purchase price was $1.09 million, according to Boulder County property records.
Tebo initially planned to have another coffee shop operate in the building, but said he opted to go with Terrapin because a good friend served as a broker for the dispensary.
Tebo has publicly stated in the past that he preferred to not lease to dispensaries, because of concerns about thefts and potential negative responses from surrounding tenants.
"We have leased to dispensaries in the past in special (situations) and have about a half dozen that lease from us today," Tebo said via e-mail.
