Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL - LED

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Woot! Berry bomb has 'exploded' out of the soil, she has green there for sure SS! :) Now just som TLC and they'll both be rocking on :)

It exploded!!!.....and died. Such is the cycle of life. This leaves room for more diversity and tiers. A new seed order is being mulled over and stock taken of on-hand inventory.

Big changes are ahead. All's well with the world.

:( Makes room for new life though :) Will you grow something alongside the dark devil or will you just grow her out alone?
Looking forward to the tier grow, really starting to get into LOS aswell. I want to try it sometime after all our hyrdo plants are completed. Is there a basic rule of thumb when creating the LOS soil environment that you would suggest to make the process easier?

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

The soil recipe is based on the one Clackamas Coots developed and can be found on the first page of my journal. Mix it, cook it for 30 days, plant and be amazed. Easiest grow possible and absolutely no concerns for deficiencies. I do no-till, but this soil can easily be recycled and used over and over. My choice is based on my desire to leave my soil community alone to continue doing what they do so well. That choice comes with the responsibility to replenish the basic building blocks my soil community counts on for continued health and vigor. Because of that I have a schedule of regular drenches and teas that I apply twice a week.

Other than that it's a grow like any other, fueled by the lighting you have available and enhanced by your ability to control climate. It's letting yourself get used to the idea that you aren't feeding the plant, but rather the soil community. Your soil feeds the plant in a dynamic dance of give and take that clicks away like clockwork in this delightfully healthy soil matrix.

Sorry, I get a little carried away when speaking of the soil food network. It's a thriving community of tiny earthlings in my mind. I find that exciting. :laughtwo::green_heart:

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Start sourcing stuff a little at a time while you finish out your hydro. Sue's first journal spells it all out very simply and with great detail. If you intend on transitioning to living organic soil you will need to educate yourself a bit. Sue's first journal is a great place to start. You can read teaming with microbes by Jeff Lowenfels, and also teaming with nutrients by same author.

I believe you are referring to the life in the soil and how to get it there and have it functioning strongly. I'll just say that the SFW is everywhere in nature, and many of the components of your soil mix will add vast microbial diversity within your soil. Glomus spores, ACTs, and vermicompost top dressings ensure their are literally billions of "critters" at work for you, growing your cannabis plants healthy and strong.

Don't be intimidated by organics, rather dive in head first and figure it out! Gaining the knowledge is the best part.

Also I see you are growing a Blimburn grizzly purple kush. Cool, me too. Attitude Christmas promo, single free bean. I'm giving it a go, it's got nice structure. I'll have to go check yours out.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

My first journal was my first real grow. It was my first real experience of growing in living organic soil Though my family background was rich with organic gardeners, I mostly stood on the sidelines as a child. Starting my first grow in LOS was so easy it was laughable. It's only intimidating if you overthink it. Believe me - I did my best to overthink it. :laughtwo: Like CO says, jump right in and learn as you go.

I followed that recipe closely, with minimal variation. Being able to purchase a nutrient and mineral kit made the soil building a simple process. My best advice from my experience? Invest in the best vermicompost you can find (if you don't have your own) and don't be afraid to add a bit more aeration component (diversity is a good thing). Then relax. Breathe. Watch your plants blossom.

Don't be sorry SS! That's what i want, information with a dash of care and interest. So beautifully written as well i might add :cheertwo: Thank you

Hey bro i'm all for knowledge, that's why i love growing this plant :) So many different ways/styles to grow and the amount of strains out there astronomical! I'll be looking firstly at Sue's first journal and around here then venture off into the wider interwebs to learn about living organic soil. As all of you whom grow as organic as possible you would understand i want the healthiest product i can so my body doesn't have to process what i call 'poison' but hey not knocking hyrdro i just want to grow in every different way possible haha.

Yep got the free bean from the attitude aswell :) It has been a vigorous and healthy plant thats for sure, as you said nice open bush structure, would you agree? I'll have to have a look see at yours too my green thumbed friend :)

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Sometimes my posts my read a little harsh or brash or something. I'm not like that at all really. Organic growing is one of my biggest passions in life, and whenever I begin to tell anyone about it (I guess I'm referring to real life cannabis growers I meet or know), I always get "sounds like a great way to grow tomatoes", or something similar. My herb helps prove my point but then people get defensive and weird. Anyway I learn more everyday through interacting with lots of talented folks on here, and not long ago at all I was just beginning to really learn what the soil food web was and what amazing cannabis plants it could grow. It's a quest for sure, but it also comes easy. I wish ya the best with your voyage and am happy to lend a (virtual) hand when/where I can.

Re: the GPK, it would be cool if it were a winner, I have a rooted clone just in case. I'm not sure we have the same pheno, it's hard to tell because I just let mine go au natural since it happened to work in my grow this time. Looks like you've done some nice training on yours.

Here's a couple links to my stuff, the first one has lots of good info, starting after all the yapping about cloning early in the journal. There are a ton of good links and discussions. The second is my current journal, come check it out.
Tomorrow I'll take a good pic of the GPK, and post it, it will be day 25 or 26 of flower.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Edit: I referred you to Sues journal first because she does such a great job at explaining things and documenting the processes. Sue will always be light years ahead of me there. I just snap pics, post links and ramble on at times. Although for the record, I never post a link that I don't think is quality reading on the subject of organic growing. I don't want to scare you away from reading through the links, lol.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Something was seriously wrong with that batch of Promix.

I like to pH balance the soil with lots of mineral buffers and myko. Then, it doesn't matter at all what the Ph of the water is.

But I don't test runoff for pH! You're not getting an accurate test of the soil Ph, but you are getting an accurate test of whatever portion of the soil that leaches out, which isn't exactly what we want.

Doc, this leads me to a question on my own grow (hope you don't mind sue). I am not in HB or LOS, using Happy Frog and I always pH to 6.5 with waterings and feeds. I recently flushed my 5 gal smart pot with 5 gallons of 7.0pH and my run off came out at 5.8 with the end run off at 6.1ish.

Is this an accurate measure of the soils pH? Does the run off being low say that my soils pH is too low? (I have not had any issues with growth and have been very aggressive with flux method of training)

Thanks brother

I'm not scared lol :) I've been through your journals and i must say you have some done some great things, all subbed and ready for more updates from you :). Sorry for the late reply been a little busy this evening.

Re GPK: I think it will be a winner, this whole grow with her no matter what i've tried to keep a positive mindset so she won't pick up on my bad vibes. She seems to be not that stinky atm but i'm believing she may be a strain that really shines in her last 2 weeks of life before chop but who knows as of yet? I'm mostly intrigued about her yield output, I have the 400w of light so should be a good test of the 700gm off 400w. Just some simple LST to widen her out and let the light in the middle more. From what i've seen so far simple works best MOST of the time :)

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

It's satisfying to log on to my journal and find discussions about LOS going on while I slept.

Daily Update: Dark Devil Auto - Day 4

And then there was one..... The Berry Bomb didn't make it. Next seeds I'll do a 12 hr pre-soak in fulvic acid and aloe vera juice before dropping them. Lesson learned. Of course, planting seeds is a big crap shoot anyway and when you work with such a fine margin for error, one must expect the occasional confused seed.

Here's our little devil this morning. Still a tiny thing.

image22059.jpg

image22060.jpg

I added a small fan to get air moving around. I'd neglected that in all the health distraction going on. Wrong righted. Now we have moving air. I need to get some little clip-on fans.

image22058.jpg

At this stage there's not much to do by way of maintenance. But since it's Thursday, before I climb down onto my mat and treat myself to my first Callanetics session in over a week I whipped up a nice enzyme tea for the pots. Remember, we aren't feeding the plant, we are keeping the soil community stocked with the necessary building blocks for happy plant development. As part of that design I do regular scheduled teas and drenches. Sundays are a drench of coconut water and aloe vera juice. Thursdays are

Enzyme Tea

Last night I ground up 1 Tablespoon of Malted Barley Grain into a fine powder and bubbled it overnight in about 2 quarts of chloramine-free water (2 drops of molasses to a gallon of tap water, set for at least ten minutes). This morning it looked like this:

image22053.jpg

Gathering up the rest of the ingredients. - Ful-Power fulvic acid, aloe vera juice and reconstituted kelp meal. The paint strainer does the best job of removing larger particulates but still giving you the beneficial particles you are seeking.

image22054.jpg

When I take the air stone out I make sure to scrape all the bubbles from the side and mix that in too.

image22055.jpg

Strain into the watering can. Stir as you pour to get the most benefit.

image22056.jpg

This leftover mash will be mixed into worm bin food. I've been neglecting them.

image22057.jpg

Adding 1/4 tsp of Ful-Power, 1 tsp reconstituted kelp meal and 1/4 cup of aloe vera juice, I fill to the top with water and split the 1/2 gallon between the pots. It is absolutely necessary that you stir frequently as you drench to get every last bit of particulate matter suspended in the water and applied to the soil. No waste in the watering can when you finish! After waiting 30 minutes to let it all percolate through the soil matrix, I topped off the reservoirs. They took about two cups apiece.

I'm waiting for the light to be delivered. There won't be time to hang it until tomorrow morning. Maybe I'll do it when I get home tonight. We'll see. It's difficult for me to still be home at this time of the day. I should be on my way to Dale by now and he's already sending pleading text messages. He's going a little stir crazy. They lock you into nursing homes now. It's very akin to being imprisoned. Even the back courtyard is behind locked bars and you have to be buzzed out and back in. Maddening. He wants me to bring him home today. It's not possible to do and he's driving me a little nuts with the pleading. This is stressful beyond belief.

On a happier note, his heel appears to be on the mend. (BIG sigh of relief!) We see vascular again on Monday for a wound check, so we'll know more by then.

I really need this Callanetics session. Beginning to feel like I'm coming unraveled. Deep breath. Deep breath. That's better.

Alright guys, time to get out there and spread some joy. Have a wonderful time of it. I'm going to exercise mind and body and try for a little normal. Maybe some Bomb buds first. I still forget I have this huge stash available. :laughtwo::green_heart:

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Morning Sue! Love that you have some green to look at on such a beautiful morning.

Just wanted to touch base about your other seed. I read a little discussion a few pages back about not asking Herbies Seeds for another seed because "they don't sell seeds for germination purposes". And you would have to think of another reason to request seeds... I believe this is not true. I believe it's in your best interest to ask for another seed anyways.... Because as you remember I also killed all my seeds through excessive heat. And I emailed attitude seed bank and explained my problem. And while they did advise me that they don't sell seeds for germination purposes, the producers who they get the seeds from, DO sell their seeds for germination purposes and will probably be more than happy to replace your one seed... And who knows. I bet they throw another seed in there for your troubles... Never hurts to ask.

Just for those that don't remember I burnt 5 seeds and got them all replaced with an extra seed :) just because I asked.

Just lookin out for my girl! Lots of love!

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

hi sue , good luck with the seedlings . im sure they will be grand . learned a bit my self here about the sees germinating , i alway just drop them in my soil from a few inches high on to damp soil, ( like good old mother nature :) ) , hoping to get as close to the middle of the pot lol , then i put a little layer of soil over them , so far ive only ever had one that didnt sprout .

I watched a video last night on here , was posted on the mj news , very sad about a little boy with autism , the only thing helping him is mj , kept me awake for most of the night after seeing it . he had violent seizures towards himself . Made me realise how good my life is and not to take things for granted . enjoy every moment :)

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

I'm composing a nice email for them. Maybe having such a popular journal can work in my favor. I'm pretty easy in the end, mostly because I have some interesting seeds on hand and will be ordering more anyway.

OK, warm up Feldenkrais out of the way, pure awareness through movement. On to the main course of Callanetics. One of the major benefits of this exercise routine is the necessity to actively seek out and release any muscle tension. You can imagine what benefit this affords the nervous system and the peace of mind that follows. I'll be back later, stronger, taller, more centered.
