Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL - LED

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Damn you doc ok ill do one today. So I really don't want to drop it in a pot so keg cup? 2" pot? 1 gallon?

So fill with your soil dust with roots and drop it in?

I like a one gallon pot for seeds....but a smaller one will work. I like the gallon sized because the tap root goes way, way down before the seed breaks ground and you don't have to water very often at first.

Well moistened HB soil, poke a 1/2 inch deep hole with a pencil or something similar. sprinkle some Roots! and place the seed in. Done.

I might gently water around the seed once or twice to keep the soil moist, but they usually come up after 4 or 5 days, some sooner some later. I find that planting them about 1/2 inch deep eliminates the seed husk sticking to the cotyledon.

I planted MJ seeds directly into my 10 gal no tills and had success with germination. I like the idea of starting a seed in its final home since that is a more natural way of growing. I would venture to guess that the traditional way of transplanting seedlings by up-canning them when they are nearing root bound can produce larger root systems, quicker. That's why also why folks do wet/dry cycles and transplants.

I'm not in any hurry, but if I was trying to win a race for root mass growth and nothing else, I'd do perfect wet/dry cycles and transplant seedlings from solo cups, to 1 gallons, to their final containers. I did this for a while with TLO and saw results.

I'm not trying to say that plant or root growth is slow starting seeds in a big pot. It shouldn't be slow, just a little slower in a big pot of moist soil, vs smaller containers that are set up to make the roots grow in search of water. I believe that the SFW is happier and healthier in soil that stays at least semi moist all the time and is never tilled, that's why I plant seeds or clones into their final home whenever I can, it certainly works fine IMO.
Sorry for the hijack, I know the question was aimed at Doc. I've been thinking about this stuff a lot lately planning my next grow, and felt like sharing.

I choose Sweet Coffee Ryder. It looks interesting with decent THC. Go for it Dutty.

Again, no hijacking fears here guys. This is where I firmly stood CO, until I started watching DrZiggy with his tiered pots. That got me excited about the possibilities with 11/13 lighting to get a perpetual garden going with minimal disturbance of the SFW and maximum use of those 7 gallon pots. It's a semi-transplant and the main pot just keeps on plugging away.

As far as Herbie's is concerned, they couldn't be clearer about not guaranteeing germination. I have some additional seeds I'm ordering and I will explain the situation to them and hope for the best. I have the order ready to go (Carnival, Medical No Name and Jamaican Dream), so I'll give her a couple more days and send the next order in on Friday. If she's not up by then I'll dig her up and get a photo.

From now on I will soak before planting. I believe I'll go with Clackamas Coots advice to make that soak humic acid and aloe vera juice.

I can see I'm going to have to budget more regularly for seeds. I also need to order some additional soil building supplies next month. The list never stops. :laughtwo: I just realized today that the calcium carbonate I ordered never came in. Time to get in touch with the shipper.

Later guys.

Ok ill do both.

I'd see a benefit to not going directly into 7 that way once it pretty close to being bound an explosion of growth would occur once up potted. That's just my opinion though.

That's what I see happening with the tiered method. Almost root bound and you tier up one stage. Explosive growth ensues. Almost root bound and you sink it into the mother ship. Explosive root growth ensues as the tap root goes deep. All those intertwined root systems playing off each other. WooHoo! I'm getting excited. :laughtwo::green_heart:

Dutty, I'm glad you will be growing that Affie...Cali Connection gets alot of mixed reviews...probably because people dont like swerve for whatever reason. That being said, they have a couple strains I'm interested in, so Id love for you to knock one of their seeds out of the park so I can get the confidence to buy some of their stuff. :)

Sue, if I missed it I apologize but what size pot were you going to tier with? Were you going to do 2 top tiers?

PS. Kudos on the Carnival its one of my must grows too!
