Stonecrusher Grows Dr Lechter And Night Owl

Hi friends I'm glad to see you!
Ive been laying low since Fall harvest enjoying the fruits and having lots of fun sharing some of it around. It is great having new strains to smoke, and I feel like I improved my end results thanks to all of y'all.

There is one problem I bet many here have and that is; what to do with last years un-smoked stash? I have already composted more buds than I could ever smoke, and I don't want to give away the old stuff to my friends. I like to give them the good stuff. So what to do with the jars of yore?

A great idea came from one of those friends . He suggested I could just kind of leave it around in random places for people to find. I can't decide if I should divide it up into smaller packets or just leave a giant jar sitting in the middle of the bike path? Should I write Merry Christmas on it, or leave a message of some sort? I don't know but maybe you have some ideas.

So where is the grow journal?

I have new seeds just up. I'm looking forward to posting about them at about day 14 when they have had a little time to get started. I think this is going to be a fun grow so stay tuned!

Just a little Christmas fun with canabutter gingerbread. Mrs Crusher and I getting creative.

This is what we do after we send the grandkids home. Just have to make sure they don't fall into the wrong hands...Like my 83yo father in law. There's a story there.

Welcome to the winter grow! As promised I waited a couple of weeks to allow for things to get established.
Personally things have been a bit rough. I got Covid in the first week of December and spent a lot of time in bed with a high fever, chills, and aches and pains. And to add insult to injury I had a colonoscopy, which seemed to set my recovery back a few more days. I can't say I recommend this combo.

Today is the first day I've felt like myself again so it is a good time to catch up on the grow.

Winter 24/25 autoflower garage grow

The line up:
Bean Genie - Dr Lechter's Triangle Kush (x2)
Bean Genie - Afghan Kush x Moby Dick
Night Owl - Strawberry Milk and Quookies
North Atlantic Seed Co. - Moonshine Cookies

Here they are just before transplant. I put them in media on Nov 30, they were all up (except Afghan Kush x Moby Dick) by Nov 3, and followed a few days later by the straggler. So 100% germination!

So why did I plant 5 seeds when I have a 2x4 tent that maxes out at 4 - 5 gallon SIPs? It is a growers dilemma. Plant one extra for insurance, then try to figure out what to do with it when they all pop.

Awesome! Good to see so many sprouts

Here is the germination and early seedling details:

Tent: 2x4x8
Grow style: 5 Gallon SIPs
Media: Build a Soil 3.0 organic soil (fresh from the bags!)
Light: Vipar Spectra XS 2500
Controls: AC infinity Controller 69 pro with heater, humidifier, and fan connected

How I started the seeds:
I have been using cocoa pods with good success. I soak them for a half hour in water mixed with Root Wise and Aloe Vera. Then sew the seeds into the pods and put them in a seedling tray with a dome under my little Vipar Spectra XS 1000. Then I just stand back for a few days and let them do their thing. I don't add water and try to leave the dome on with temps held around 75-80F.

Soaking the peat pods in micorrhizae and aloe. Seed packaging.

Seeds nestled in their nests.

Under the dome for the first week.

Four of 5 broke ground in 48 hrs, the straggler took 5-6 days to show its first shoot.

On day 3 above ground I noticed tap roots emerging from the bottom of the coco pods so I put them into Solos.

Keeping the temps and humidity high under the dome.

Day 5, two days later they are taking hold.

Those seeds didn’t even have names yet when I sent them out as early testers.

If someone were looking on the site, you are growing Melange (Dr Lecter x Triangle Kush BX1) and Mallorca.

Awesome to see them doing well, I have a Mallorca (OG Kush x Moby Dick) growing myself right now and it just started flower

Day 16, transplant day. They are taking hold and have grown beyond the sides of the Solos. I see little roots coming out the bases telling me it is a good time to transplant to final pots and fire up the garage tent.

Future homes, 5 gal SIPs. Chosen because Ill be out of town a bit over the course of this grow and my garden troll can easily water with out too much guesswork.

Seriously LOVING these roots. They all had that fuzzy look.

Into the SIPs you go! I used another treatment of Root Wise micorrhizae in the holes before planting into the fresh soil.

Here you can see the coco pod. The roots seem to have no problems going right thru them.

I like to think I got in on the ground level. I have high hopes that the Mallorca will get big and force me to put up my overflow tent. (Dont mention this to Mrs. Crusher please).

Well her Mom was that rather large (10 oz) OG Kush I just grew so the possibility is there!
I haven't had a Moby Dick get really huge yet but there are several people on the board growing them now from various breeders and they do get big.

Hey Stonecrusher sounds like you need another 4x2 tent.:slide: Glad your over the Blicki. I've had it twice .....it sucked even without a colonoscopy. Those Little sprout look good.

A SIP grow??!? I'm in.

But (4) 5G SIPs in a 4x2?
I know they seem like 5 gallon SIPs, but after taking the reservoir into account it is more like 4 gallons. I wish I could find a six gallon bucket!

You should look at beer/wine brewer buckets, the come in 6 or 6.5 gallons, relatively cheap and food grade.

Watching this. Ive done 3 in the tent and it was packed. Will 4 bucket even fit, never tried it.
Actually four buckets fit fine in my 2x4. You just have to stagger them a bit. In my last grow thats what I had. You can see from this pic that there is room to spare as long as they are little, say up to 18" tall. It is a bit of a gamble, because if you get one or two that take off and start getting big then it requires a second tent.
This is most recent shot. I decided to go with straw mulch because I notice with SIPs the top of the soil drys out more than I like. This could help it stay moister.

Ok dam never even thought of putting 4, might try it next run. Only thing I've noticed and youve hit on it, that the plants are smaller. I've done 3 and the harvest weight was a lil bit better than the 2 i ran before that run.

I was thinking about using straw, but i found some coco mats that fit perfectly in our sip buckets. I use gro bucket inserts for my sip, but i do have a homemade one that closely resembles yours. I love them!!! But i noticed the dryness too, and found out something interesting i didn't know. That if you use synthetic nutes, and water from the bottom, all the excess salts go to the top. Im organic right now, but if using synthetics you will see a white crust on the top. Crazy, but in organics its great to see all the life under that mat when i do lift it. The plant will send feeder roots to the top if you can keep it moist. And the mycelium goes crazy under there. Next time I'll try 1 bucket with a plastic covering, i heard that was even better.
Good luck growmie, ill be lurking!

Sounds like you have been working out a good technique. I have considered trying a mat or even a plastic cover like an Earthbox and then top feeding compost. Ill definitely follow along to see how that works in a SIP.
