Still a newbie

Hi All. I am going to begin my third grow in a few weeks. The past two were auto-flowers. This time I am trying regular feminized seeds. Can anyone help me out with a few questions? What light cycle should I use while they're vegging? How do I know when it's time to change the light cycle to force the flowers? And when it's time to do so, what light cycle should I use for flowering? And what can I do to get a larger yield? My past two grows were successful, but I didn't yield as much as I expected. I'd really appreciate some seasoned grower's to advise. Thanks in advance!!!

Hi BD77 - Thanks for responding. My first grow was White widow auto-flower and my second was Amnesia Haze auto-flower. Both did well, but did not get very big. It was an indoor grow. I ended up with a few z's from each grow. I must say though, the buds were quite nice and covered with tricomes. Ended up with some nice smoke. Grew them under 315W Ceramic Metal Halide light. Harvested the Widow at around 56 days and the Haze at around 65 days. I realize auto flowers don't grow as big, but was hoping for a bit more yield. They got about 2-31/2 feet in height. I grew them in some EXCELLENT organic soil, mixed with some compost and perlite. Did not need to fertilize. Watered with PH'd H20 and kept the grow environment as consistent as I could. Both grows started with a light cycle of 18/6 and when they started flowering, I went to 12/12. I am still wondering how to determine when to switch the light cycle to force flowering on my next grow, as I have only grown the autos. Thanks!!!!

When to turn back the light varies. I run a SCROG, and turn back the lights when the first level screen is full of green stuff. When I grew vertically, I would figure on 18 inches of stretch in bloom. I think you can shrink that by using a high Kelvin temp bulb during the first 2 weeks of bloom. Get some bamboo stakes if you grow vertically. That MH lamp would do a 2X4 foot SCROG or Quad horizontal type grow to reduce final height.
