The state's top marijuana consultant is offering ideas to the Seattle City Council about how to proceed with regulations for legal pot businesses.
Proposals being considered could allow 50,000 square-foot growing operations in the city's industrial areas.
According to the Seattle Times, Mark Kleiman, a UCLA professor who is also head of BOTEC Analysis, told the city council Monday that increased law enforcement against illegal dealers could be helpful to the state's new system of legal pot, even if that enforcement leads to short-term racial disparities in prosecuting cases.
Kleiman also has concerns about the city's zoning plan for legal pot could leave buildings empty in manufacturing areas, because it would be cheaper for marijuana producers to grow it elsewhere.
