The state has suspended the license of a naturopathic doctor with practices in Whatcom and King counties for allegedly violating the state's medical marijuana law.
The accusations against Yuel Luncheon Boyce stem from a Bellingham Police Department investigation, according to documents from the Washington Department of Health and the Board of Naturopathy.
Boyce couldn't be reached for comment.
The Board of Naturopathy suspended his license Wednesday, Oct. 31.
Boyce has 20 days to ask for a hearing before the board. He can't practice until the charges against him have been resolved.
Department of Health documents allege that:
- Three patients, who actually were undercover Bellingham police, went to him in January and asked him to authorize their use of medical marijuana.
- He gave them that authorization - in exchange for a cash-only payment - without requiring medical records. Boyce also didn't adequately examine, diagnose and determine whether the three actually could qualify to receive medical marijuana.
- He didn't provide physical exams. He signed authorizations, and then gave what was described as a superficial review of their medical complaints. He didn't schedule follow-up appointments.
- After receiving cash, Boyce gave them peanut butter cups infused with marijuana. Providing marijuana to patients at the same place where he issued authorizations for medical marijuana violates state laws, according to the Department of Health.
- He didn't have patient records for the three.
