COLUMBUS, Ohio (WDTN) - If a local politician has his way, some people could smoke marijuana legally. State senator Tom Roberts plans to introduce the controversial legislation.
Roberts' proposal would permit the use of marijuana for some people who are sick to combat pain and nausea.
"I've had opportunity to meet people in severe debilitating situations that this kind of medical system will help them greatly," he said.
Several other states have established the legalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes, including Washington and Oregon.
Roberts says his bill would create medical identification for the marijuana user as well.
If passed, the law would be monitored by Ohio's departments of health and agriculture.
