A Spring man trying to make liquid marijuana has been charged with arson after he ignited a blaze at his home earlier this month that injured a firefighter, officials said.
Spring firefighters on Dec. 4 arrived at Kambiz Michael Duran's home in the 3000 block of Tall Tree Ridge Way after neighbors called 911 to report dark smoke coming from the rear of the residence. Once inside, firefighters found "a large amount of a green leafy substance" that was helping to fuel the blaze, according to an arrest warrant filed this week.
A firefighter suffered second-degree burns to his hands while battling the fire, investigators said.
When the smoke cleared, firefighters found other suspicious items inside the residence, according to the warrant.
Investigators "observed marijuana, multiple butane containers, glass tubes, a gel substance in containers and other drug paraphernalia," the warrant states.
Harris County arson investigators said the substances were being used to change the plant into a liquid form of marijuana, known on the streets as ear wax, according to prosecutors.
Neighbors told investigators that they heard an explosion and looked out to see two men leaving from the home.
The fire apparently ignited from butane vapors that built up in an enclosed area of the residence, arson investigators said.
On April 27, investigators searched the home and seized marijuana and manufacturing equipment. Duran, 28, was charged with possession of marijuana in that case, court records show.
