Some Atlanta Police New Hires Have Arrest Records

Atlanta has made concessions in hiring new police officers in trying to reach a goal of 2,000 officers.

A review of job applications at the Atlanta Police Academy found that more than one-third of recent graduates - 12 out of 33 officers hired - have been arrested or cited for a crime.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution conducted the review and found that the arrests ranged from minor offenses such as shoplifting to violent charges including assault.

More than one-third of the officers had been rejected by other law enforcement agencies, and more than half of the recruits admitted marijuana use.

Police Lt. Elder Dancy runs the department's recruitment unit. He says in an ideal world they would like to see every applicant with a clean record, but, he says, "obviously that's not reality."

Sounds like Florida in the 80's. They hired everything dumb shit they could find to wear a uniform. Man was it a mess. Worse than chicago in the 30's. The cops committed more crimes than the criminals.

These sound exactly like the type of people we should be giving guns to.

A rationale man might say, "maybe we have too many police officers, and it might make more sense to redirect the existing resources rather than waste them on investigating victimlesss crimes, (like MJ possession). This might be a far better alternative to hiring criminals"
