Go to a large plant nursery and look for a potting soil that contains the following:
bird/bat guano, worm castings, seaweed/kelp, perlite, lime, and mychorrizae. These are the ingredients in Fox Farms Ocean & Forest and you can usually find the same thing cheaper from a local source.
Then pick up a big bag of perlite. Add until it comprises 15%--20% of the soil mix.
Using the above mix you won't have to add nutrients for the first 4--6 weeks, and then less than recommended strenth of whatever nutrient you use after that.
