Soil-vortex grow journal-2012

This is my 2nd time growing vortex but it is my first time cloning. I took 13 clones off a mother plant that was my buddies. I put them in the dome about 5days ago i used Olivia rooting gel and im using A-OK plugs. my room is a odd 5 1/2ft x 4ft as you will see. During veg i will be dividing the room so its a even 4ftx4ft. My main hurdler is the right airflow as i was having trouble in my first grow to get efficient air flow as i cant damage any walls. I Have a plan to fix that but that will come once these start rooting. if you have any questions please ask and I'm open to all ideas and tips to help this become a very successful grow.

. Indica,Sativa: mostly sativa
. Stage: 5day clones
. Indoor/Outdoor: indoor
. Soil or hydro: pro/mix soil from local garden store clones are in A-ok starter plugs
. What size pots: 5gl
. Light: 4ft 4bulb t5's
. Room temp:80-85 degrees
. Room humidity: 85-90%
. PH of medium: 6.0
. Any pest: There were spider mites on the mother plant but was treated and there are no signs of mites for the time being.
. Nutrients: Botanicare

well its been a few days and things are looking good. after fixing ph issues and most of the leaves turning yellow they are starting to bounce back those that survived. i had to toss 5 of them because they were noticeably dead so i pulled them up and the stem was all soft. so i have 8 left and the leaves are starting to turn green again. i was talking with my friend that gave me these as he is helping me with the cloning.. he informed me that not only did he give me vortex he also gave me some OG kush. in other news i just got some more seeds just in case this grow gos not as planed i picked up some cluster bomb seeds and some sharks breath seeds.

Thank you for subbing jon.this is that baby poo smelling pheno type so i am told but we will see..im putting together the room for when i transplant. i have a walk in closet that i'm putting panda in the door way with a trap zipper. I'm trying to come up with a easy solution for the best airflow first i will be using a twin window fan with a temperature display with a exhaust intake and outtake i will have one on the bottom for intake and one top for outtake. the tricky thing is trying to lightproof these so i found some exhaust covers that blocks any light so we will see how that works i will also have a osculating fan a air purifier. trying to get rid of the smell i'm going to using a ona bucket i have had this for my last harvest and it worked very well. The only thing new i'm adding is the window fans.

Well today is day number 10. So things are doing good for the most part. i checked on the girls today and run into some issues. First i noticed some leaves were turning brown and curling.Then on one of the leaves i found a small trace of mildew so i yanked it. Hopefully i caught it in time.Two of the vortex are bouncing back. i brought my RH down to 80% and temp is about 75-80 i have noticed tho it has gone down to 75%RH not sure if that is too low at this time. I took some pics of my last survivors. I'm not sure what is going on with the ones that are still yellow and turning brown and curling and if i should just yank them. im hoping on getting at least 2 to root and i have 6 right now. All comments and suggestions are always welcome.
they look more yellow then they really are trust me its my camera i need a new one.

this is the vortex but there is a chance it might be the OG he never told me there were two different strains so did not get to label them but it looks like its bouncing back.

This one im not sure its going to make it not sure whats wrong there are 2 others that are doing the same

The last couple of days have been busy. The other day my friend gave me eight more cuttings four vortex and four OG. I have been keeping them in another dome. So today i went to check on everything and i noticed two have rooted but then i noticed some mold on one of the leaves so i pulled everything and now i just have the eight new ones and my cluster bomb should be ready to go into soil tomorrow. So hopefully things start picking up. I do need some help on ventilation. I was going to use two twin window fans they are quiet and pump in and out a lot of air. Because the only place i can get those is online it well take me 2weeks to get them that is too far away so i was thinking i could use two 4" or two 8" duct fans not sure if that is enough to vent a 4'x4' room. I do have a floor fan in the room plus i plan on getting four co2 bags. Anyways here is what i found today im lucky i had more cuttings.

you can use an 8 for exaust and a 4 for intake this will keep negative pressure in your room and keep the smell out of your place.I would pick up a speed control for the 8 and dial it down to3/4 power so your basically running a 6 inch exaust and a 4 inch intake.hope this helps bro.

I agree with jon on this one. If your rh becomes the issue which it could in flower consider getting a small dehumidifier. Shame you chucked so many clones as i think you would be surprised how bad they can look but still pull through. You only needed 2 so i guess its no big loss.

Ive always had bad luck cloning with grodan cubes ,I never had as good of results as I do with jiffy pellets.I just soak the pellets in tap water and stick the cuttings in.thats it, and I usually have 100% success this way. and they dont muck up my system either

Well first off i just want to thank you all for the comments and tips and thank you tony for subbing. I'm just coming back from recovering from bronchitis. My babies are doing good i should be seeing some roots in the next week. I planted sharks breath i meant to plant some cluster bomb but i found out i grabbed the wrong pack but either way i have been waiting to try out the sharks breath. Today i wake up and see that the sharks breath is trying to poke its little head out I'm so proud of her already. So if everything go's to plan i will have OG kush,vortex,and sharks breath. In other news i just ordered a twin window fan for my exhaust it has a thermostat and controls for exhaust or intake and it has about 200cfms not sure how accurate that is but we will see how well is works if it does work i will be getting another one for my intake. I'm going to have to make sure no light comes through which i possible but tricky. These fans are just temporary until i can get some good quality fans and I'm not in a place that i have to worry about noise. So while these starting my next step is to work on my ona bucket and dialing in the RH and airflow. Once i get my fan up and running i will put update pictures of the room and my babies they should have roots by then.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN everyone. Today is a good day as far as my grow is considered both OG kush's in the soil cups rooted and at least two of the vortex rooted. I have to say that i would recommend the root tech rooting gel this stuff is great roots in 11 days. Now we all have heard what is going on over on the east coast. well like i said i ordered my fan well i tracked my order and my package is in keasbey,NJ. SO im not sure how long it will take to get it but i can wait. My sharksbreath is doing great going little by little. As i take a bong toke i hope you all are having a good Halloween here is a couple pictures hope you enjoy

Well got my fan today and got it all hooked up. It works great in less then a hour it brought the humidity down from 75% to 45% in the room. Under the dome its about 70% not sure if it should be lower or not as they have little roots but not a lot and not sure when the best time is to transplant. I also have to light proof the fan which im not sure how to go about doing i had a plan but the surface is not flat as i was hoping it was. So my next step after light proofing the fan and transplanting the clones is the ona bucket. Well here is a picture of my fan i hooked up that i need to light proof. Any comments and ideas are always welcome. Hope you all have a smoking good time

Well things are looking up i just got done transplanting my clones in to their new homes. Out of 8 cuttings 3 vortex rooted and 3 OG kush's rooted but because i only have so much space and light im only keeping 2 OG's and 2 vortex's and i still have that sharks breath. I still have that issue with the humidity its staying around 60% only because after a couple of days i have to put my evadry on the charger so im going out and buying another one their for i can have it on rotation that should keep the humidity down to a 45%. Im still worried about the vortex getting powdery mildew. I'm going out today or tomorrow and getting new plastic for the door and a zipper door tarp also been seeing some spider mites they are not bad but still have to keep them down so someone recommended to use azamax i have read about it and it all sounds good but not sure how well this stuff works. I should be posting up pics tonight lets hope all gos well with this around.

Here is the pictures i promised. By the way i have them on 18/6 timer and im going out tomorrow to get the stuff to fix the door so this is nice and lightproof. The OG and the sharksbreath are looking good but the vortex still has yellowing to its leaves and has a little whiting on the edge not sure if its mildew maybe someone can help. but to me it looks like the yellow is fading to white my camera is not the best sorry for that. Also the leaves are twisting. The first two pictures are of the vortex and since this is titled vortex grow i might just stick with just the vortex and maybe start another journal on the og kush and sharks breath not sure let me know what you guys would like to see. Ok so it has been almost a week and things are still looking good. I checked on my girls this morning and one of the og kush's and one of the vortex is outgrowing the 5 round pot they are in. So I transplanted them into 3gl pots the other og and vortex im giving to a friend so all i have now is a 1og,1vortex and the sharksbreath. I have already given the og and vortex some nutes the sharksbreath is still has a week or so before i can give it nutes. Here is some pictures and like always please feel free to comment.

im a big fan of Safer end all bro.gets rid of anything that isnt suposed to be in there including eggs and its safe too use right up until a couple days before harvest.I used it on my girls outside and had no pests whatsoever.

Well i had my first disaster last night. I was moving things around and the fan fell on the OG i was going to move the plants out but usually i have no problem moving around in there. It cut off about 2" off the top not sure how it will effect it but it seems to be doing good today. The vortex is doing ok still yellowing in the leaves and seems to be taking it slow should start filling out in a week i just added liquid karma today so now they are getting 1tsp of grow and 1tsp of liquid karma. As far as the sharksbreath go's its still warping and staying really short i have never seen this but im sure it will straighten out. Also im going out tomorrow to get the spray for the spider mite issue which i believe that is the issue with the vortex they love vortex. Well pictures or worth a thousand words so with that said let me know if there is anything else i should be trying.
