Soil Mixed with Hydro?

Hello all,

My partner and I are talking about switching from soil to non-soil growing. She is very much for doing it, but I have a couple of reservations, including:

1) We've already vegged our clones in soil. Is there any way to transplant them into a soil-less environment? Or can we put the clones with their soil into another medium and treat it as a hydro setup?

2) Regardless of the answer to #1, right now we are using individual pots for each plant, and can't afford to do a major overhaul of our system. Is there a relatively simple and inexpensive way to switch to hydro using the 99 3-gal pots that we are currently using? We're open to any sort of setup that works, including active or passive systems, etc.

Thanks so much!

Here's the thing, you have to get every bit of soil off the roots when you transplant them. You don't want any dirt in the reservoir. I'm not too sure if the pots would work. Most people use mesh pots for hydro. ;-)

Why dont you finish out the soil and swap to hydro for the next round? Save up your pennies and you can start getting the proper Hydro equipment. That way you will have your meds while you try to figure out the whole hydro thing... :peace:

How long have you vegged the clones? over 3 weeks?
I too would finish in soil> Ms. Fox said it all as far as I see> You stand a greater chance of ruining or having problems by not getting the root systems washed off completely> \
Now is not the time to be experimenting> you're risks I believe would be too great and outway the final outcome at this point>
The initial shock to the ladies could have adverse effect and throw them into Hermies> I have seen this happen>
Be prepared for your next crop to switch to hydro system and start it from the begining>
If this is your choice>

You could treat the plants as if they were hydro, with perhaps a drip system, or hand watering with nutes.Letting the run off go down the drain.Carful though you will need a thourogh flushing about once a week to prevent nutreint lock out
They call that a run to waste set up and it is hydroponics. most mediums used for this purpose are coco, rockwool etc. which are harder to over water. Soil is easy to overwater so i don't think it will work for that purpose. But to transplant isn't a big deal and as long as you get almost all the soil off you should be alright. A mesh stocking or something simular over any pump will allow you to keep dirt from plugging things up by acting as a filter.

Welcome to the 420 community!!!!!! :rollit:

Im in the same delema, want to try out hydro on a small scale see if its the set up for me. The only thing holding me back is my budget. This site has helped me in the knowladge portion of the swap but im still learning. You could use a drip system and switch the Medium on the next grow. :peace:

Whats up dudes...ebud...try building one of those 5gal bucket hydro drip system. Theres a thread in here that shows how...I think its called hydro bucket grow or build one of those. I doing that one and have all but pump right now and got two buckets with the lines and even the little drippers for each bucket for under 39.00 at lowes!!
Suntop...good luck with the transplant man...if these guys in here say it can be done ..then your golden.
