So, where do you dry your freshly harvested plant/s?

So, does anyone else have a bit of a problem with having somewhere to dry their harvested plants/bud?

I have a small office which I managed to use last time to dry my three large plants by stringing two “washing lines” between a bookcase and the facing wall. Not ideal but it worked. I wasn’t using the office much, hence I could keep it in darkness and at a reasonably cool and dry temperature. It worked great.

Now however, I will be using the office, and any visitors, well, I don’t want them to have to “part” a sea of hanging plant when they come in. Not a very professional look!

The only other option I have is hanging them somewhere in our house (the office is remote), but the smell might attract the attention of visitors, and anyway, my wife wouldn’t want that, especially as I keep my cannabis hobby under wraps!

My third thought is, buy another tent, and filter system and use that somewhere in the house as a drying room, but then the cost….eeeek! (This is the best option I can think of however!)

Also, the strains I have grown so far were landrace Leb’s mainly, and the buds were very open and easy to dry. I’m now looking at some of the more dense budded strains, and I’m guessing that mould could be an issue if they are not carefully looked after when drying.

After doing a little searching on the forum about this, I also came across the “washing your buds” posts. Wow, I’m going to try that next grow. Also, I seemed to remember reading someone recommended placing bud into paper bags to dry…. I’ll do another search for that, as it could help by vastly reducing the space required if it works, and not so visible.

I will probably have a few months before I need a solution, as I’m not growing anything yet.

Thanks as always guys.

That was a common method years ago. Trim the buds removing any fan leaves. Trim back the sugar leaves if you want. Keep the buds on the stick. Put them into brown paper bags like the ones supermarkets use. Put the bags on a shelf in a closet or above a cabinet where they will be out of direct light most of the time. First couple of days move them around in the bag so that the ones near the bottom are at the top and so on. They will slowly dry.

After awhile take one out and bend the stick. If the stick bends without snapping it is still moist. If the stem bends and about halfway through the bending it snaps then it is getting close. If it snaps as soon as the bending starts it is about right, maybe a bit too dry. It will fall into place. Once nicely dried put the buds into the glass jars and get a daily "burping" routine going until the cure is finished.

The brown paper bag method was popular years ago. Probably fell out of popularity since so many larger supermarkets are loading groceries into plastic bags and people do not think of the paper any more.

If you are thinking of bud washing then the next thread to read up on is the "low and slow in the refrigerator" dry and cure. The bags are put in a fridge for several weeks to dry and then to cure. Once ready take the bags out and put the buds into jars. No daily 'burping' needed. Some have used the basic fridge method without bags so that is also an option.

Hey SW thanks for that. It's funny you say most supermarkets have ditched the brown paper bags.... here in NZ we have recently banned plastic bags and have gone back to paper!!! :laughtwo:

I don't have a fridge spare that I could use for weeks unfortunately. Also, guess I need a method where I don't stink the house out or give my self away because of the smell of weed.
