Size of hole to dig?

Hello from Nova Scotia,,im getting ready to start and dig some holes ,,as the last couple years i just used buckets and i feel that my plant wasnt getting to grow to full size,,,,im just wondering how wide,,deep my holes should be,,the ground that i will be digging is like a clay material,,that being said,,the place im gonna put them was being used for a lime stone plant,,so yes there is lime in the ground also,,any help would be great

You need to double-dig. That's the dept of your space x 2.

2x2x2 / plant. Add play sand to clay soil for drainage and to break it up turn it then add other amendments . Dont know about lime sorry

Dig the hole twice as large as you need. Line it with gravel and replace with your own soil mix
