Sighhh, I split my stalk

Hey again....so I was performing LST on my plants for the first time in their lives and I apparently split the stalk on each one of them. Definitely gave me a learning experience that maybe I should start earlier in the process than now (I’m in the middle of my 5th week).

So I’m thinking that I should be ok and they will heal up, but I’m definitely feeling a bit deflated. I used some strips of double sided Velcro to hold the break together (not pictured). Anything else I should do and worry about?

No but great save and quick thinking Reptar! You know lots of stuff will work zip ties, most any type of tape but I like soft flexible stuff that won’t cut into plant skin, double sided Velcro sounds perfect

When strapping plant limbs down..... bend a little and wait a day.... slow & steady for the win

Ahhhh, that’s definitely something important that I missed. I knew that I had to massage the branches to help them bend, but I did not know that I should have started massaging them prior to the day that I intended to tie them down.

were they tied earlier ? lst begins pretty early. leaving it go awhile results in split stalks.

duct tape, electrical tape, get it on there to hold the split together fast. i've healed up some pretty bad ones.

Another possibility is to supercrop one limb or maybe 2 at time as part of your bend then support the branches and wait a few days then do another pass at another pair of limbs, but agree with Bluter you gotta start early and work at it over time,

just in case I better add.... don’t try to add supercropping now... let the plant heal up, I meant super cropping a bend as you are training.

what I do is start my lst (personally I like manifolds or quads) but in the process of training I make my bends and tie them down just a little, wait a few days and wrench them down more and so on. Then a week or two later I go back and start supercropping those bends to help take the strain off the main stem. After supercropping I support the limb to make sure it holds the shape I want - not where it flops to..... I only do a pair at a time and if she looks good, not wilted then I do another pair the next day

you are smart Reptar you will get the rhythm!

Your having a rough go, we all have them, don't sweat it. As the plant matures it will become more difficult to bend. Mistakes happen, even the pros (which I'm definitely am not!) Break a stalk now and then. Tape and leave it be, the less you touch it for now, the higher the chances of it healing. You may see some leaf discoloration as it heals, don't panic and be patient.

I never tied them down earlier. It’s my first grow and I have done a ton of research before I started, I guess I just missed that u got to train the branches a for a couple days before tying them down and to start earlier than what I did. Definitely a learning experience for sure!!

Here are a couple pictures with the Velcro holding it together. What do y’all think about me adding a zip tie to the outside of the Velcro? Does the Velcro seem to hold it well enough or should I also use the zip tie? I try to stay away from tape because I have the most difficult time handling it in every scenario lol

you start training super early in quad. well before the size of that plant.

ditch the velcro and get some gorilla tape on it. electrical works good too but you have to wrap a bunch. you need it TIGHT. pronto. the longer it sits the larger the chance you'll lose the plant. it has to knit together.

duct taped mine. it shrugged and kept going. going to be fine youll see.

Ok on the tape.... for next time.... fold the tape over itself about an inch to start that way it won’t stick to stem .... wrap a few loops around and tear or cut the tape.... take end of tape and fold it over itself again so you can find the end to pull from... but yeah that coated garden wire is the shizz up in 13Goodys pics that’s my preference.... support the crap out of it but don’t cut plant skin - leave room for growth

Thank u...question: this tape can’t stay on forever? I’ll have to remove it?
