A Shreveport police officer was fired Wednesday for giving away a packet of marijuana he found on a prisoner.
Officer Eddie Williams, a four-year veteran, had been arrested earlier on charges of malfeasance in office and obstruction of justice.
Police Chief Willie Shaw, who fired Williams, said the incident happened last September after narcotics agents arrested a man for possession of a small amount of marijuana. Williams was dispatched to take the man to jail.
Williams frisked the man, found a small plastic bag of marijuana and handed it to a woman standing nearby, Shaw said.
A supervisor saw it happen, took the marijuana away from the woman and reported Williams, police said.
