Should I go to Cali?

I have decided to grow my own stash and maybe sell some. I was very successful before growing but in the past I used soil and a shit load of hanging fluorescent lights but they are cumbersome and obvious. I must be discreet because where I live it is illegal to grow a plant. I have been researching grow boxes, tents, and systems, but what is the best direction to go. I am also planning a trip to Cali, can I get stuff cheaper there with cash? I am also scared to have equipment shipped to me. Please advise an old hippy, tired of smoking Mexican bunk. thank you
 
I want to move to Colorado but I have no clue where or who to talk to. I want to be in a 420 friendly area. My wife needs the medicine and my daughter wants the mountains. Any suggestions.....reality co? Not sure how legit the land sale website is....

California is NOT a safe bet. MJ is not legal here, not yet.

Growers and Collectives get raided EVERY DAY here. It is a lie to say that it's legal. Be careful in Cali.

You have to be discreet but you're contemplating traveling all the way to California, buying a bunch of indoor gardening equipment, and then driving back with it, lol?

Unless you live real close to the CA border, I wouldn't exactly consider such a strategy to be the height of discretion. Unless you're driving a motor home and your "permanent address" is just a PO box in some post office somewhere, which might make it harder to search your vehicle during a traffic stop (since RVs, when used as permanent homes, fall under different search & seizure laws than, say... a station wagon).

I once drove ~125 miles one way because that was where the nearest (indoor) gardening store was located. On the way back, I had a tire blow out and - as I was going sideways :rolleyes3: - I took out one of those construction zone barrels and a bunch of cones. Imagine having to change a tire at the side of the road when your vehicle is filled with growing equipment. And then HOPE that is the case, lol. As my spare tire was under the floor in the back, I had to unload the <BLEEPING> car just to get to the thing. Yep, I changed a flat in a freshly damaged car, surrounded by "construction zone debris" ... with about $1,000 worth of lights, hydroponic equipment, a couple meters, and nutrients sitting there beside me. Sure made me regret spending the little bit of money I had left over from filling my shopping list on one more light that the store clerk made me a good deal on ("...It's a display model, so we threw the boxes away for the ballast and hood - but since the hood is REAL BIG anyway, that'll make it easier to fit in the back of your car. And it's not like anything will happen while you're driving home.")
 
Had lots of bad experiences with the cops in California. Some nice places there, and maybe there are some quiet nooks where the cops don't roam, but it seemed like every time I turned a corner I saw cops beating someone into a pulp. Usually a black (and red) pulp but I was sure they'd be happy to make an exception for me. Really turns me off of wanting to go down there anymore.
Washington cops are weird about MJ too, in my experience.

Seems like Oregon is the promise land to me.
 
I haven't lived in Washington. I'm mainly from BC. My personal experiences with the cops there, while not particularly good, haven't involved cannabis. But living in BC, I have heard endless stories of Washington cops very actively seeking out home grows and taking them out in the most violent way. Also, some Wa members, DrCannabi, and D...Panty among others, on this forum have lodged many bitter complaints about the system there. Not having first hand experience of living there I could well be wrong. So I probably shouldn't have said 'in my experience'. I guess I meant the experience of living next door and hearing decades worth of sad stories. Also I haven't followed news of the situation in the last year, much. Quite likely they are lightening up down there- wouldn't be surprised if the attitude is changing.
 
My sympathies go out to those who've had unpleasant/unfair experiences with LEO. In my little spot of the woods, my own experiences with them have mostly been just the way I like them - nonexistent, lol. Of the few that I have dealt with, all but one have appeared to be decent people who cared and who were just trying to do their job. As for the one that my previous statement didn't fit, lol... It's amazing how quickly a video of a cop extorting service and a chunk of her (non-cannabis) drug of choice out of a prostitute - when he was both in uniform and in his cruiser :lol: - can change an attitude.

Even cheap, non-activated cell phones have a video recording function these days, folks. Use it.

We also have the most stupid government.. *insert painful twitching here*. As far as law it depends on where you are, what you're doing etc. Most of our local county cops are people we went to school with lol. Pretty easy going unless something nefarious is going on. And besides.. who else has a boat cop named Officer Trout that gives away his personal trading cards during boaters safety classes :rofl:

Honestly, I don't want more people moving here, but the University of Washington instigates some of the best medical outfits in the world and we do grow good smoke. Best of both worlds for your situation from the sound of it.

I have lived all my life in Cali. Before I turned a teenager I was going to Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco and partying. There was no such thing as medical marijuana then, and all hookups came from the street. It was full of seeds, and stems.. And not potent in comparison to today.
An MMJ card holder like myself can legally grow up to 3 plants for personal stash. If your daughter wants the mountains... There are plenty here with beautiful properties that are not too expensive to buy. Rents can be expensive, but where can you go where they are not? I mean... In comparison to the wages in any particular area. The cops here are mostly easygoing unless you are being obvious about something nefarious. They do not dig too deep if there is nothing that they can observe, smell or hear that would make it obvious you are up to no good. So... Yes, things have mellowed out in this state quite a lot.

I moved from Boston to CA back in the day when I could afford to. I'm in San Diego but I'd choose any place on the West coast that I could afford, researching the local enforcement scene. Get a med mj authorization. Though in CA relatively small commercial growers taut No Cal, I favor the lowest latitude to lengthen growing options. Keep in mind that CA this Fall will inevitably pass the recreational mj prop that should open growing for personal use even more-even in conservative San Diego it's not problema. There will be, I'm sad to predict, a restructuring of the market here by the corporate entities slathering to move in and take over.

I think the rec use of MJ will pass in California. And, I think I will vote against it. Should MJ be treated the same as a bottle of Scotch, and regulated the same? Or should it be treated as medicine, and regulated as such? I kind of hate to see this magically healthy plant thought of by the general public as the same as a six pack of beer.

California, one of the most socialist states in the US, will tax the shit outta MJ. You wanna grow legal? The application fee is $10k. You have to have your location already tied up, so sign a long term lease or buy a property, get all the security stuff installed and ... sorry, your application was declined ... thanks for the ap fee.

Or you spend an extra $50k on lawyers and get approved. Then you have to buy a tag for each plant at a cost of $100, and hire a couple of accountants to track EVERY ounce of 'product', even waste.

Oh, and don't get caught violating the law, big penalties. You know what the penalty is for even OWNING a still? Big. Know why? Because you're messing with the gov'ts money. Tax money. So, only the big players (Monsanto, American Tobacco, etc.) will be able to afford to grow MJ. And if we get caught doing it, prison. Now, it's not going to be that way the first year, or even the first five years ... but, that's the way it will end up. That's the way socialist gov'ts work. They start out with a foot in the door, then kick it open.

And the short sighted, history ignorant, entitled, commie socialist, liberal sheep of California will pass this law.

I'm glad I'm as old as I am.
We are going to get just what we deserve.
