Shasta County Supervisors Extend Ban On Medical Marijuana Collectives

REDDING, Calif. -- The Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to extend a ban on new marijuana collectives and cooperatives for another year.

The ban extension passed at the beginning of the meeting, without comment from the supervisors, but not before one medical marijuana advocate shared her dream for when the moratorium ends.

"We want to offer classes and seminars, for the chronically and terminally ill," said Dr. Tammy Brazil, who told supervisors she is buying four acres in Mountain Gate for what she envisions as a one-stop shop for everything from cannabis to a plant-growing facility to education.

"That is what medical marijuana is for," Brazil continued. "It's not a joy ride. People need to be taught how to use it. They need to be educated, so everybody isn't so afraid of the subject. We're dealing with terminally and chronically ill patients."

"I lost one yesterday," she added.

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors first passed its moratorium on new collectives, cooperatives and cultivation in February after hearing from a series of passionate speakers who spoke out against medical marijuana.
