MALES AND SEED PRODUCTION.
Finding the best male
1]. Stinky when gently pinched about 2 to 3 hrs before lights come on. size and early showing of sex is desired . if they show sex early and are short with lots of branching and stinky when pinched they are the best males and carry the best genes over to seeds. Kill all the other males.
2] once you start the flower cycle and before the male flowers open up remove your male to another area or space. you can trim him down to a single branch. keep the light cycle the same as the main grow. you can keep him alive and trimmed a very long time.untill you need his pollen. I top him and single out a side branch. this is where the best pollen comes from. early pollen has taller genes later pollen has shorter genes in most cases. you now have your alpha male isolated from the main grow so your females won't be all seeded.
pollination preparation
About 1/2 way thru your females flowering [when stretch slows and heavy bloom starts] is the ideal time to pollinate her[your alpha female or mother plant]. you should have lots and lots of flowers.
NOTE; you will need a few things.
A] a fine mist sprayer [very fine].tap water only not ph adjusted.
B] a big self sealing baggie. new[ZIPLOCK].
C] a dark peace of card about 4 by 8 inches.[so you can see and gather pollen].
D] a dry clean terry cloth.
E] a big clear bag
this is a precise procedure that will enable you to grow seeds on a single branch or female plant. without contaminating your entire grow if space is an issue. you can keep the male anywhere away from the female but a small space is needed or area where pollen cannot enter the grow space. a positive air pressure grow room is best for the females.
pollination procedure
you must keep clean. and above 60% humidity is needed. in both spaces.
go to the males space and bring the sprayer , card and baggie leave the cloth outside the area.
put the baggie down a few feet from you opened but in hands reach.
put the sprayer close to you but above the males area and close to you hang in back pocket if possible.
open space and put the card under the flowers of the male and shake him so that pollen falls on the card.
close up the space and very carefully move away [slow till you get to the baggie]
put the card into the baggie and seal it up.
take the sprayer and spray the crap out of the baggie and you.[it keeps the pollen from being airborne.]
go take the baggie and place on the cloth and spray the crap out of it.
then go change cloths and shower.
now dry the baggie off and take to the grow room.
pick a good female branch with lots of flowers and open baggie. All fans and air must be off before entering grow space.
take the baggie and gently shake the pollen over the branch or branches you want seed to grow.
leave the room for about 6 hrs. then rinse and wash the sprayer again and refill.
go back into the room and spray the plant you just pollinated get it wet but not drenched. this keeps pollen stuck to her and wont float around. you can cover that branch with the big clear bag for a few days.
you want to pollinate her 3 days in a row gently taking clear bag off pollinate and waiting the 6 hrs. this will insure enough pollen will give you enough seeds.
you can put the exhaust fan back on the next day[day4] and a week or 2 the fans can be turned back on but before ya do keep misting her 1 time a day. all the pollen will die if wet and dried each day. but the flower sacks will start to get fat in a week or 2.
the female you use to seed will be the last to be harvested. when she is way old and you can see ripe seed in the sacks. when her leaf changes and her color changes. you want ripe seed.
dry her slowly and if done right you can shake the seeds out or remove them very easy. do not grow the new seed right away. let them dry about 1 month and put in the refrigerator[not freezer] for about 1 week. you should get 95% or greater viable seed.
this method is for limited space issues but works well with all kinds of grows. if you have space just put male and female in their own space and shake him every day over the female.
