San Diego County is cracking down on medical marijuana clinics.
The Board of Supervisors on Wednesday gave final approval to a new ordinance restricting pot dispensaries in unincorporated county areas.
The new law bans marijuana collectives within 1,000 feet of homes, schools, churches and playgrounds. County staffers indicated at least 10 available sites for dispensaries, including near the Ramona Airport and remote towns such as Julian, Alpine, Campo and Borrego Springs.
The dispensaries must be licensed–at a cost of up to $20,000 each.
Marijuana activists complained that the rules are too strict. Opponents demanded a full ban on the clinics, which have proliferated since Californians passed a law legalizing medical marijuana use in 1996.
