Scroggin In The Greenhouse Blueberry OG Kush, WW, Scooby Snacks #1

so the split in the main stem makes the plant become bigger? how about a two and half inch screw? i'd probebly first drill a hole and then screw it in. Would it be a good idea in veg time? i wouldn't mind experimenting this on one of the clones.
I think those big screws are about the diameter of a pencil. Maybe just a little bigger. I dunno about veg. I've not done it before and using a clone you don't like is a good way to experiment.

Here are a couple of articles on stem-splitting:

Thanks, this has been around a long time and always strikes up debate. That second article says it can be bad for the plant if done to early. I'm not buying it. Most of my girls are weeks from finishing and I'm seeing a lot of bud development. Growing is like religion...everybodys goal is a good crop or God but there are many paths to get there and rarely will all parties agree...lol.
I've never gone to this extreme with stem splitting. I'm glad I did but would never suggest others to do so. Especially a new grower. Thanks for the info.

Agreed! That’s why I like having as broad a survey of the territory - and as many perspectives - as possible. :thumb:

still that article gave me a bit of knowldage and dosn't make me ask 20 questions like above.
However, i guess to keep the conversation to point this technique makes the plant go into a massive stress which in results it will want more nutrient to recover. crazy, one would think why stress it when the end line is close by.
This is why i love following old school growers and methods. The techniques are deffinitly ammazing.

What's happening in the Temple today? Let me tell ya. Somebody needs to turn up the air conditioning. Temp was 93 today and the weather man says it feels like 104. The girls were thirsty today and only got ph'd water. I guess they are going to want water every three days or so from now on. Maybe if the heat subsides a little they will slow down uptake...who knows...lol

I pulled that screen yesterday because I feared powdery mildew. Well, guess what I found today on a WW? Yeah, PM. Just a small spot but enough to get my attention. I plucked the small bud off right away then I shot off a few questions on the subject and hit the problem boards to find a solution...thank @13goody13 for the info. He told me about the shed using citric acid to keep pm in control. He's been using it as well. His area of the country is probably about the same humidity as mine. So, if it worked for him its gotta work for me. I didn't have citric acid powder but I did have lemon juice. Researched a little more and found 1 part juice to 2 parts water is suggested for late flowering plants....bam...done. I also drug another fan out there too to add more airflow. Now I just gotta keep an eye out for any more. That stuff can blow up fast and ruin a whole crop. I kinda figured it would pay me a visit and should have been better prepared but I think or hope I got it.

I hope you were able get the mildew under control. I hear it can be difficult in flower. Curious to see how the screw works out compared to without it. Nice grow.

What's happening at the Temple today? BUD ROT

So last night I'm looking at some pics I'd taken of the WW's that are getting near the end. I've been battling PM for a week now and something told me that there was more coming my way...lol. As I reviewed the pics I notice this brown spot I'd missed while out there snapping away. I couldn't do anything about it till daylight so I stewed all night.
This is the pic I was looking at.

I removed the damaged bud site and search the rest of the plant for any more. It was not a very large infected area and it seems I got it all but I am sure this is not the end of the story. I've been expecting this. My humidity in the mornings sits around 80+ and drys up to 50+ most days unless its rainy. Can't mix tight bud formation with that kinda moisture and not expect something to go wrong. Oh well, now its going to be a daily search till this little lady is done. I'll get bud but I'm going to have to work my ass off to do so. Luckily I see no signs on any other plants but then again this widow is way ahead of the rest and expected to be ripe in the next few weeks. Fingers crossed she makes it and produces something...anything would be nice.

I've never had to deal with bud rot before and am searching to see if I can at least try to control it. If there's anyone out there that wouldn't mind throwing in a suggestion it would be greatly appreciated. I'm bummed but not beaten...lol.

Thats sucks mate. just like your self, i've never dealth with one neither. Maybe @InTheShed or @Emilya can shine a light on this?

Cut it out with good margins and inspect every other bud on the plant. I'd bend them all out away from the stems to get a good look as well as airflow in there. It's usually either from humidity or caterpillars, so if you see any caterpillars, damage, or the little webby nests they build, spray the plant down with BT or spinosad.

:goodluck:
Thanks shed. I did remove a large portion of the area and saw no signs of insect activity. I have spinosad just in case. I did get in there and separate the bud. It just seemed like the right thing to do at the time. Kinda super cropped a little and opened it up. I did this to all of the remaining buds as I inspected them. Turned up some airflow directly on it as well.
I see no more an any of the others sites for that plant....but I suspect I will. All the rest are weeks behind and my hopes are this humidity will subside as I move into mid September. Thanks for the info I really appreciate it.

You can see what’s missing from this picture lol Glad I caught it before it took the whole branch

I almost freaked out n cut the whole bud off but decided to try n save it. Guess I'll just watch it every day now. Not much else I can do.

Right, just wait and hope it doesn’t find ideal conditions again. I hit mine with the garlic oil treatment to at least make sure the spores in the area weren’t airborne, but otherwise I’m just sitting waiting. This one has a week left so if I can avoid major problems it will all be ok.

Glad you mentioned the spray. I'ma run out there n hit it with a spritz of apple cider vinegar mix. Prob is a good idea knocking down any loose spores.

whats a loose spores. good to know about apple cider vinegar mix

Give yourself some credit for finding it now! You could have missed it, right?

I would have suggested searching the forum for this, but the shed b@t call brought it to you. You rock, Shed, sincerely!

The bud rot ends up as a dry brown mold that looks like dust. That dust is actually millions of tiny mold spores that are looking for a place to land and grow. Every spore is only a single cell in width, and can’t be seen with the naked eye unless it’s in the millions. So kill or drown the loose spores with some type of oil or drastically change the acidity in the area so it can’t propagate and become another rotten bud.

Excellent info 13goody.
