Santa Ana Medical Marijuana Grower is Victim and Suspect

After responding to an armed robbery Friday, Irvine Police indicated the city may shut down the victimized business: a medical marijuana dispensary.

After responding to a robbery in Santa Ana Monday in which the homeowner was beaten by two men, Orange County sheriff's deputies seized items from the victim: medical marijuana and cultivating equipment.

Can you say, "trend"?

A city official later told the Weekly, "Dispensaries are not authorized in the City of Irvine because we do not issue licenses for businesses that plan to operate in a way that is inconsistent with state and federal law."

The Sheriff's Department reportedly says the Santa Ana homeowner is now the subject of a narcotics investigation, even though he showed deputies a medical marijuana patient card and explained he was growing for his local collective.

Just after 1 a.m. Monday, he heard a side door opening in his home in the 18000 block of Romelle Avenue in unincorporated Santa Ana. Next thing he knew, two men were beating him with an unknown object.

They took cultivated cannabis and several electronic items before fleeing. The resident drove himself to the hospital for treatment, then called deputies Amormino said.

The resident then drove himself to a local hospital, where he was treated for head injuries. He called deputies to report the robbery after being released. He explained he grew medical marijuana for a collective and delivered the medicine to patients.

While uniformed officers came to the home to investigate the robbery, narcotics officers began seizing the remaining plants and pieces of the sophisticated hydroponics growing system.

A sheriff's spokesman told the Orange County Register the investigators want to know if the marijuana was being distributed illegally.

This is despicable. A guy gets the shit beaten out of him, his goods taken, and what do the supposed protectors of society do? Steal more of his stuff and shut him down.

A lesson in life. If your an MMJ patient, don't call the police or you will be robbed twice.

Quoted for the truth.

More lawsuit fodder. I swear to god, this is as despicable as it comes. Suing LEO for failing to "protect and serve" and making it as publicly visible as possible would be an instant avenue to take. It's way past time to show society that the "war on drugs" is actually a war against the people, against personal freedoms, and against anyone that is "different" than what the "powers that be" approve of to be able to live in and be a part of our society. Corruption is far more rampant in our public servants (they seem to forget that's what they are) than in our general population percentage-wise. It's time to flay the servants and hire new ones that will do what they are sworn to do: protect AND serve. Without personal responsibility for their actions, LEOs hide behind their badges with impunity. Time for that to change. Each and every one of them need to be held accountable for their actions. Not the department. The individuals. No protection for the corrupted and corruptible. Take it to THEIR homes and THEIR families.....there's more of us than there ever will be of them. They cannot win. :peace:

Unfortunately, the supreme court has ruled that the police have no obligation to help you at all. Yet you are certainly obligated to pay there salary's.

After the Doctors recommendation was provided the police response should have been" how can we help you catch the violent intruders and how can we make sure this does not happen to you or anyone else again." Why waste valuable police resources which they are always complaining how limited they are when we have violent crimes going on daily, this should be their focus not what somebody's growing on their property... We pay a arm and leg for police services just look at your local budgets. I think police harass medical marijuana growers because the laws are so vague on what you can and cannot due when it comes to growing for co-ops and that they are easier targets than the true violent criminals. This person was trying to follow the laws. Until the law is firm police should be lenient on people trying to improve their lives and others... Not tear them apart like the modern police force do on a daily basis. Our society created this violence the day they outlawed marijuana. Why give a gangs one of the most powerful tool's out there like alcohol used to be... Make marijuana legal and take the tool of gangs away. Just ask any gang member if they would like marijuana to be legalized, I bet that they like things the way they are... Thank god this man was not killed like the man in Washington was and the police seemed more concerned about his grow than who killed him... We have a very sick Law enforcement in our country.... To bad everyone is to afraid to change it...:peacetwo:
