I use a lot of ffof. Is it worth it when my plants are done to use a screen or something and "pan" for perlite? It's 10$ a bag here but I'm not sure what % of ffof is perlite.
With the price of perlite it seems like you'd be working for cheap. Perlite breaks down with use too. It wouldn't be worth it for me. Most potting soils I've seen are about 20% - 25% perlite.

I use polystyrene instead of perlite sometimes, just grate them for small pieces. Seems to work just as good, might as well use up whats lying around the house lol!

I am saving my used FFOF/PERLITE mixture for an outdoor grow this summer. While it won't be new and fresh it'll help fill up a big hole around the edges of good sized smart pots. I've never done this before so it might or might not work but I gotta try it.

No, I planted my first seed last July so I missed it. I'm looking forward to this year though. I dug some holes last fall and put some compost in them. Been saving the used soil in a big contractors trash bag.
