Retirement right around the corner

Hey folks, getting to that age and starting to think about what I’m going to do with my spare time and my desire to be stoned lol.
what I’m leaning toward is growing 2-3 plants at a time, going autoflower to start with my plants. Probably best the grow indoor and use a tent setup. Is 2x4’ by 72” or so enough or should I be thinking bigger? Should I be grabbing a full kit with lights and vent? Aiming at doing hydro to get started.
Any advice on preferred setups to get me going would be great, thanks in advance

Hello @Wheresjerry & welcome to :420:

Autoflowers and hydroponics are described by many as a tough 1st grow. That being said, if you are up for a challenge and a half, it's doable and been done (I grow fairly exclusively in hydro and Autoflowers).

Your going to want to consider a grow journal so folks can follow along and help out along the way.

What style of hydroponics were you thinking?

Also when you get a chance, take a looks at our contests section...the grow journals of the month are filled with great info as well.

And here's some handy links

Was thinking about running a DWC set up for starters unless you’ve got another suggestion. This system seems to be easy and I can purchase another as needed.

DWC is a good way to get into hydro, but each and every setup has its pros and cons. For me, if I were to do it, I'd plumb the lines and turn it into an RDWC. Which basically gives it an external reservoir, allowing you not to have to lift the buckets. Even that one has some draw backs.

So...a 2x4? Max 2 plants, and even that can run issues....depends on how big you grow them.

If you think/know your going to be growing for a long time, get a bigger tent, or make a plan on having multiple tents (which is great for perpetual setups).

Can I ask what kind of budget your looking at?

Nutes? There are some way over priced and under performing one out there. If you have selected any yet, we can help give some advice.

Lights...a big topic and important one. We have sponsors that can help and give members discounts.

Ventilation is a big one that is often over looked.

Some kits are good, many over priced IMO. Some of our sponsors do kits, and are decently priced.

Don't forget temperature control.

I know this seems a lot, but your ahead of the game by asking these things in advance.

I'm by no means an expert, and only have done a few grows myself. There are many highly skilled growers on here who will also give great advice. Just don't be shy on asking any questions, we'll help as best we can!

Hey Rexer. Have you ever grown autos in a greenhouse or strictly outside?

Never grown in a greenhouse, but am hoping to get one in the upcoming years.

I have one auto that is outdoors (but is a terrible example). Have you taken a look BeezLuiz journal? He grows great outdoor autos...there's a few more on here that do grow autos in those environments.

Ok I’m going there now, thanks

Anytime! Wish I could help more, I'll take a look at your journal all the same in hopes :green_heart:
I just reached out to him in his journal. Thankyou! You did help me alot my friend.

There's tons more, WH just named a few great ones (lol I had just smoked :lot-o-toke:) , and I think @Justin Goody has some outside as well (pulls amazing yields off autos and shows well what they can do!)

Yup, I’m fixing to smoke some myself. I’m so stressed over here, ugh!

PLEEEEZE, please, don't do auto.
They're not cannabis.
I dunno what they are ... lettuce? ruderalis?

You'll find real marijuana to be much more rewarding. Something to be proud of.
Learn how to do it right ... it's not that hard.
OR, grow tomatoes. NOTHING better than a tomato still warm from the sun, and a salt shaker ... standing in the middle of your garden grazing ... yum.
But, Ruder-Auto?
Don't do it.

This is my first year outside with them and I’m getting lucky with so much sun.
If you don’t have a place that gets light ALL DAY, outdoor autos might not be right for ya. I find the topped autos are much more vigorous growers. The best part is, these will be done before the weather turns ugly here.
I doubt they will yield as much as the indoor sisters, but the light out here is free ;)

Bro, we’ve already went down this road with you.
You are going around to journals trying to convince people NOT to grow autos

Your argument is dead, and if need be, I will beat on it some more.

I don't think I ever talked with OP about Ruderalis.

Sometimes I just can't help it.
Hate to see water wasted on ... weeds.

Also: interesting to note that OP gave me a 'thumbs up'. Maybe I DID save a soul from the soul-less weed. Lots of other people gave a 'thumbs up' too; include two or three with some chops. Come on guys - don't be afraid of being cancelled ... speak the truth ...

GROW CANNABIS !!

.

But did you notice that I took away that thumbs up too? On second thought all of my reading about Autoflowers has me curious and probably a good way to learn.

I am thinking about a budget in the 400-600 dollar range should give me a great start with everything I need. Based on comments already, I think that I’ll up my tent size to the 3x3’ range, because knowing me, I’ll be looking to expand so might as well get that out of the way now. Keep the information coming please!

Personally if you have space i would not buy anything smaller than 4x4.
Others are so small plants are cramed in on top of each other.
You can grow more girls and have better spacing with 4x4.
you won't regret it guaranteed.
