There has been an enormous debate in many countries regarding Marijuana legalization because it is medically beneficial for various conditions. And with medical marijuana markets on the rise, its tetrahydrocannabinol commonly abbreviated as THC has mostly worn recognition for its medicinal purposes. However, Researchers from the Technical University of Dortmund have discovered a much inexpensive of producing THC through the use of yeast.
A lot of Marijuana users have had challenges in accessing the drug, but Kevin Chen chief executive Hyasynth Bio says that the discovery could change the lives of many millions of people. The discovery could also possibly lead to the elimination of growing Marijuana plants that would in return minimize what has always been referred to as illegal farming by the Authorities.
Besides, health professionals would have a more cost-efficient and consistent supply of THC for their patients. The researchers are happy with the latest unfolding and are hopeful that the study will further prove the medical usefulness of the plant.
With the increasing need for Marijuana, the pill that is currently available is treating nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite caused by cancer treatment.
Nevertheless, researchers are not only working with THC to synthesize using yeast. Earlier on another team of researchers presented their efforts in trying to incorporate opioid painkillers using genetically engineered yeast. The team from the University of California has the conviction that being able to synthesize opioids would let them fine-tune the pain medications that would in return make them safer and more efficient.
John Dueber, a researcher within the project, has good news. Once the awareness of how to generate an opiate-producing strain is out there, any person qualified in basic molecular biology could ideally build it. However, a little concern is that there are chances people may tend to "home-brew" the drug.
At the rate marijuana is becoming medicinal; researchers are only concentrating on the production of small amounts of THC as they work towards boosting the production of higher amounts.
