Removing popcorn buds during flowering

Hello:

I am wondering if it's ok to trim off developing popcorn buds during the flowering cycle. When harvesting I don't use them, not interested in saving them for edibles and prefer the top larger buds. I am not much for quantity but more for quality. Would removing them push more energy from the plant into the larger buds and produce a denser bud?

I'm a big proponent of removal for quality and quantity.

Removal of bud sites is quite common in producing larger central nodes and fruit examples giant broccoli, pumpkin and watermelons

Three strain grow, day 21 trim, everything below the screen removed.

But how late into flower can this be done? When is it too far to do it?
I would say dont do it after 28 days of 12/12. I do the last trim around 3-4 weeks. But i do trim them couple times before in flower. btw. Gr865,looking good in those pics :)

That was a good haul and decent smoke but it was just to hard on this old body, can't get under the plants to do the cleaning needed. Think that run was 26.5 zips of smokable buds and a 4+ zips of untrimmed that went directly into making FECO.

Nice stuff guys. With my indoor winter crop, I've lollipoped my personal stash but have started simply to exfoliate (defoliate) in an extreme way. All fan leaves come off after the stretch and buds start packing. This produces enough light for the lower buds to grow.

As for my outdoor crop, I walk a different path. I always plant way way more than I can possibly harvest. A little over 1000 plants last year. At harvest time, I make a cola collection run, trim, and while it's drying, I go back for seconds run, trim, dry, cure, etc. I keep going back until hell freezes over, or I get it all. This gives the smaller buds time to firm up or mature a bit more. Sativa's are always more airy than Indicas so it's not at all about the "firmness" or photogenic buds. It's about yield. The better the bag appeal, the better the price. Smaller buds still go for a good price though. The really small stuff goes into oil and capsules which usually go for an even better price. I prefer the oil for myself because I hate smoking the crap. And oil keeps me high for 4-5 hours. But I never completely strip a plant.

I ALWAYS leave a popcorn flower on a branch (only at the top) for my last run. Why? Rhodelization. I carry a glass vial and can usually collect enough fem pollen to produce a couple thousand female seeds.

Here's a GG#4 girl giving up the goods.

Within the first three weeks of flower is ideally when you should've lollipopped by.... maybe cut a few fluffy pop corns off but be mindful that the plant will stress to a degree regarding trim volume thus a stressed plants growth will stunt temporarily and possible even Hermy if too intense with the cutting. Stress will affect the final product..
